December 19, 2021 - Fourth Sunday of Advent“…Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." Luke 1:45

On each Sunday of Advent, we celebrate one of four special gifts – hope, peace, joy and love – that are given to us as we wait for the Ultimate Gift on Christmas Day. Today is the Sunday of love. The gift of God with us… God in us… God among us… IS the gift of love.

In the love of God that comes to us in Christ Jesus, our lives are transformed. So many of the famous Christmas movies and stories carry a common theme and that theme is that transforming power of love. In the Hollywood versions, “The Magic of Christmas” gets the credit for this transformation, and we as Christians know exactly what the Magic is – it is the Love of God personified, Emmanuel!

Love has the power to change Grinches and Scrooges – to change even the hardest of hearts. Love has the power to change Charlie Brown’s sad, withered Christmas tree into something special. Love has the power to make this a Wonderful Life when it is allowed to be present in our hearts, in our home, in our community.

We are preparing to celebrate the biggest transformation ever brought about by the power of love: the Almighty, All-Powerful God who made heaven

and earth took human form – the form of a baby who is the Savior of us all.

What a change this baby brought to our world – “This baby made the angels sing; this baby made a new star shine in the sky; this baby has come to change the world…” bringing a message and living a mission of love.

Oh how wonderful it would be if we were to allow the Power of Love, the Magic of Christmas, the Son of God, the King of Kings to rule our hearts. Imagine how transformed our world would be if we lived as Jesus has called us to live – to love one another as He has loved us!

All of us are whole-heartedly encouraged to invite the people in our lives to the transformation – to come celebrate Christmas with us at Holy Family. Take this bulletin with the

Christmas schedule and spread the word about our celebrations of the Birth of Christ.

And the transformation doesn’t end with the invitation. Every parishioner present at Christmas Masses can seize this once-a-year chance to bring others to Christ by

sharing with those who accept our invitations a joyful, active celebration of the glorious Christmas Mass!

Prayers at a Christmas Manger

Leader: It was St. Francis of Assisi who first popularized the Christmas manger. Wanting to see how Christ was born with his own eyes, he had a stable and some images made before Christmas and then invited his neighbors and friends to come and join him at his “Bethlehem.” As we look on our manger, may the Christmas story unfold before our eyes, too.

Listen to the Holy Gospel according to Luke: Luke 2:1-7

In those days a decree was issued by the emperor Augustus for a census to be taken throughout the Roman world. This was the first Registration of its kind; it took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone made his way to his own town to be registered.

Joseph went up to Judaea from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to register in the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was of the house of David by descent; and with him went Mary, his betrothed, who was expecting her child.

(Figures are then placed in the manger, and the reading continues.)

While they were there, the time came for her to have her baby, and she gave birth to a son, her first born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Then all pray:

O God, whose mighty Son was born in Bethlehem those days long ago, lead us to that same poor place, where Mary laid her tiny Child. And as we look on in wonder and praise, make us welcome him in all new life, see him in the poor, and care for his handiwork the earth, the sky and the sea. O God, bless us again in your great love.

We pray for this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Face Mask Update

It’s very important that we use prudent public health procedures when participating at Mass and other opportunities to join in other liturgical events at our parish. We need to assure safety and practicing healthy ways for our families and those celebrating with us and sharing sensible ways. We need to be safe for ourselves and those around us. Being sensible and helpful are easy to practice and share. This time of Christmas is an important sign to keep that in mind.Everyone who takes part in Holy Communion, both as a distributor and one who is served should wear masks. Our parish family needs to be instructed to wear masks in our church whether or not we recognize our vaccination level, though we should nurture others to keep the practice. Offering hand-sanitizer diligently for those who are Ministers of Holy Communion. Also, physical contact needs to be avoided, even prohibited during the Sign of Peace and Communion.The wearing of masks is truly important during gatherings. By the way, it’s not just COVID-19, but various flus and other medical issues need our attention and our support – and our prayer.

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee.Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. Domingo 19 de diciembre, 2021REFLEXIÓN SOBRE EL MENSAJE DE HOY

La bienaventuranza de la fe: el elogio dirigido por Isabel a María nos lleva a reflexionar, en este tiempo de espera, sobre nuestra fe. La fe de María se caracteriza como una adhesión a la promesa de Dios. María está totalmente segura de que Dios quiere y sabe ser fiel a la palabra dada. El misterio de Dios se oculta en aquel niño que, como todos los niños, se va formando en el seno de su madre. Creyendo, ha comenzado a constatar cómo Dios es fiel en realizar su promesa. También esto es cierto para nosotros: si no creemos, no experimentaremos nunca cómo el don de Dios, misteriosamente, puede ir formándose en nosotros. La fe de María se manifiesta también en el hecho de ir a visitar a Isabel: un viaje inspirado por la premura de su prima que necesita ayuda –como suele decirse comúnmente y con razón–, pero también un viaje para ir a contemplar lo que Dios está haciendo en los otros. También nuestra fe tiene mucho que aprender de esta actitud, ya que debemos tratar de darnos cuenta de lo que Dios hace en la historia de los demás. María e Isabel tienen esto en común, de lo que nos podemos aprovechar nosotros hoy: saben dialogar sobre lo que Dios hace en ellas. Ninguna de las dos habla de sí, sino de la otra, o de lo que Dios ha hecho, hasta el culmen del Magníficat.

La fe de María nos exhorta a insertarnos en el clima propio de los «pobres del Señor», es decir, de las personas humildes y sencillas que confían en Dios sabiendo reconocer su obra. Se nos invita a vivir en una actitud general de disponibilidad al plan de Dios que nos invita a volver a las palabras del salmo (39,8) que el autor de la carta a los Hebreos pone en boca de Cristo: «Aquí estoy para hacer tu voluntad» (Heb 10,7). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PREGUNTA DE LA SEMANA

LA POSADA INTERCULTURAL La Posada Intercultural: Las Posadas conmemoran el viaje que José y María hicieron desde Nazaret a Belén en busca de un refugio seguro donde María pudiera dar a luz al niño Jesús. Cuando no pudieron encontrar alojamiento en Belén, José y María se vieron obligados a buscar refugio en un establo, donde nació el Niño Jesús. LAWRENCE THE MARTYR PARISH, NORTH HIGHLANDS Únase a nosotros para honrar el matrimonio, la belleza de la fidelidad, sacrificio y la alegría en la vida matrimonial. Durante la transmisión en vivo de la misa, habrá una bendición especial para las parejas casadas sacramentalmente y la oportunidad de renovar su compromiso matrimonial. ALABA AL SEÑOR EN LA BELLEZA DE LA SANTIDAD - SERIE DE FORMACIÓN LITÚRGICA Presentado por la Comisión Litúrgica de la Diócesis de Sacramento, Oficina de Culto Divino, y Oficina de Familia y Formación en la Fe (OFFF). Serie de cinco partes para miembros de comités de liturgia, coordinadores de liturgia, ministros litúrgicos, músicos, así como maestros, catequistas y aquellos que hacen preparación sacramental. Propósito: Promover la participación plena consciente y activa de todos los fieles formando líderes litúrgicos calificados para lograr liturgias hermosas y dignas de acuerdo con las enseñanzas de la Iglesia. Basándose en la Sagrada Escritura y los documentos litúrgicos básicos, esta serie ofrece una introducción completa a los principios y prácticas litúrgicos a través de lecturas seleccionadas, conferencias, discusiones y proyectos individuales. Se enfatizará la aplicación práctica.

FUNDAMENTOS CATEQUÉTICOS Fundamentos catequéticos es un curso para toda persona en la Diócesis de Sacramento que desee tener una comprensión de los fundamentos de la fe cristiana y cómo transmitirla a otros.
