A MINDSET OF SERVICE There is a lot of traveling, delivering, and visiting going on in our readings today. In Genesis Abraham cares for the needs of three mysterious travelers. The psalm responds, celebrat-ing the kind of righteousness that Abraham practices. Then, in his letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul describes his own ministry as almost like a delivery service: he, God’s steward, brings the word of God to their community. Finally, Luke’s Gospel shares the well-known story of Mary and Martha, and the different ways they welcome Jesus into their home. Amid all this coming and going, we are invited to pay attention to the ways we tend to the needs of others. Each of us can ask, How am I present to God and others in my life? Copyright (c) J. S. OUR PARISH MISSION

We are the Christian Community of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, a Catholic parish of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Embracing our many and diverse gifts, we are united in Christ Jesus. Challenged by the teachings of Our Lord, and inspired by the example of our Patron, we strive to serve God, and to minister to others, in prayer, sacrament, faith formation, and charity.

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 21, 2019

Our parishioner, Phong Bui, who works for the Social Security Administration is available should you have any questions about retire-ment, disability, survivor, SSI benefits and other social security issues. Phong will be in the Gajowniczek Building after our 10am Mass TODAY Sunday, July 21st for approxi-mately one hour.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION There is a different pace to a summer Sun-day, especially on those days when we dream of air conditioning and wave any avail-able paper to stir the air. Yet we persist in gathering, even with so many breaks from the usual routines. We distance ourselves not only from routines, but from schedules and familiar well-worn paths. These are playful days and contemplative days. We see long-lost friends and visit almost-forgotten places. We have more leisure than any people before in the history of the world, and we need it be-cause our lives are so care-worn and tiring. More of us walk barefoot and look up at the stars or dip our toes in the lake or sea, sing around campfires, read novels on the beach, and eat comfort food with our fingers. We see how beautiful life can be, and are more aware than usual of how God is always breaking in with signs of love. In Genesis today, Abraham and Sarah prac-tice hospitality to their visitors, who turn out to be God dropping in. During the summer months, God practices hospitality in return, inviting us into a season of celebration. Keeping Sunday holy is a good habit to culti-vate in these days when our spirits are espe-cially receptive to God’s deep desire for us to know divine love. ~James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Christians should offer their brethren simple and unpretentious hospitality. ~St. Basil

33 Days to Morning Glory is a five-week course that prepares one for consecration to Jesus through Mary. What do saints like St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Teresa of Cal-cutta, and St. John Paul II think about Marian devotion like this? We will present this course Tues-days beginning August 6th at 7pm in Room 215. Consecration is planned for the Feast of the Na-tivity of Mary on September 8th. If you have questions about the class, or if you would like to tack-le the preparation for consecration on your own, or if you have taken this course before and would like to re-dedicate yourself to your consecration, please contact Mike Watkins at [email protected].

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS That we have the courage to share our faith with those closest to us. “…I am a minister in accordance with God’s stewardship given to me to bring to completion for you the word of God.” Colossians 1:25 We are all called to evangelize – to continuous-ly grow in our relationship with Jesus and to share it with others. We may not be called to evangelize like St. Paul, but we should look for opportunities to share our faith with those clos-est to us, like our family, friends and neighbors. Pray for the courage to share your faith the next time the opportunity arises.

Saturday, October 5th

This year our Catholic Daughters will be hosting a celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Feast Day on Thursday, December 12th. We will recite the Rosary, have a procession of Our Lady, Mass and a reception afterwards. The Catholic Daughters are asking for donations to help cover the costs of flowers, decorations and food. If you have any questions or would like to be involved with this celebration, please contact Adrian Dupont @ [email protected] or 281-682-1211.
