Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep
By Mary Eliza Beth Frye
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
REVEREND LORENA BROWN FULLER, 75, of Orangeburg, passed away on February 26, 2020. She was born on February 2, 1945 in Rains, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Lee Brown and Lillie Mae McMillian Brown of Rains. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Lee Carroll Brown of Washington, D.C. and Fred Brown of Rains, South Carolina. She is survived by three sisters; Mary (James) Ebron of Tampa, Florida, Camila Owosela of Brentwood, Maryland and Cora (James) Brantley of Rains, South Carolina. A niece Daphne Garris preceded her in death. She graduated from Terrell’s Bay High School in Rains and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Claflin University. She met Dr. Joseph W. Fuller III of Orangeburg, South Carolina and they married December 16, 1971. Together they raised three children: Dr. Jennifer L. Fuller of Cincinnati, Ohio, US Navy Retired Gas Turbine System Electrical (SW) Chief Petty Officer Joseph W. Fuller IV (Joey) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Janice R. Groves of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Rev. Fuller was a retired elementary school teacher who taught hundreds of students. She taught at Bowman Elementary, Marshall Elementary and Felton Laboratory Schools. She was known for her honesty, fairness and refusal to let students slack off. She had a deep love and devotion to the church since childhood. This motivated her to attend seminary and earn her ordainment through the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was an integral part of the ministerial staff at Williams Chapel AME Church. She taught Sunday School, served as the Worship Leader for the Shepard’s Corner soup kitchen, and was a member of the Women in Ministry in the Orangeburg District of the Central South Carolina Annual Conference. She was known for her kind-ness and willingness to help others.
In addition to her spouse, children and siblings, she leaves behind three grandchildren:
Brandon Daniels of Austin, Texas, Joseph W. Fuller, V of Virginia Beach, Virginia,
and Skylar Groves of Rock Hill, South Carolina; daughter-in law: Angela M. Fuller of
Virginia Beach; nieces: Kimberly Bennett, Carlita Cochran, Karen Proctor, and Tomeka
Brown; nephews: Allen Fuller, Rodney Bennett, Boris Brown and Jamie Brantley and a
host of relatives and close friends.
God’s Garden
God looked around His garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the Earth and saw Lorena’s tired face. He put His arms around her
and lifted her to rest. With the help of His angels
they flew her to her heavenly place. God’s garden must be beautiful.
He always takes the best. He knew Lorena was suffering,
He knew she was in pain. He knew that she would never
get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough
and the hills too hard to climb. He closed her weary eyelids
and whispered “Peace be Thine”. It broke our hearts to lose her,
but she didn’t go alone; For part of us went with her on the
morning God called her home.
