Our Mission... Our Mission... Our Mission... Our Mission...
Water is one of the world’s most critical resources. Years
ago, high purity water was used only in limited
applications. Today, high purity water has become an es-
sential ingredient in hundreds of applications including
medical, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food processing elec-
tronics manufacturing, laboratory and countless industrial
processes.
Since our establishment in the Philippines in 1999, Matten Technologies, Inc. has remained focused and commit-
ted to providing our customers technically and economically sound water treatment solutions. Among these are
the design and installation of systems that allow for the purification of raw water for a variety of purposes.

Reverse osmosis is a widely accepted unit of operation in the production of ultrapure
water in many industries. It has gained such widespread use because it removes essen-
tially all dissolved salts, natural organic matter, microorganisms and particulate matter.
Matten Technologies, Inc. offers Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems in a variety of configu-
rations, each designed to meet specific application needs. Each system follows the same
pride, integrity and design inherent to all Matten Systems. Besides the RO unit, Matten
has a complete program for pretreatment of RO feed water and post treatment of perme-
ates. Matten RO systems are skid-mounted and ready for installation.

SYSTEM DESIGN, FEATURES AND BENEFITS
Matten Reverse Osmosis Systems
REVERSE OSMOSIS
A high pressure pump made of stainless steel drives the water through the membrane.
Permeate and concentrate streams are led through flow meters to outlet and drain connections.
All connections are made of high pressure hoses or PVC pipes.
WATER RECYCLE STORAGE/PUMPING STATION
The product water of the RO system is collected in a storage tank. If ultrapure water is required
in the process, the RO product water can be further treated with a mixed bed ion exchange sys-
tem.
PRE-FILTRATION
Activated carbon filtration is added for the removal of oxi-
dizers and organics. The feed water is then pre-filtered
using a cartridge filter and flows through an inlet solenoid
valve to the pump.
PRE-CONDITIONING
The pH of the raw water is adjusted and reducing agents are
added to destroy residual oxidizers that might harm the
membranes. Anti-scalant is also added to prevent precipita-
tion of salts.

Why the MegaMagnum® ?
Pre-engineered package systems enable fast installation and start-up
Reduced system footprint to minimize building costs
Fewer connections and seals for greater reliability
The MegaMagnum® Water Treatment System developed by KOCH Membrane Systems
(KMS) is a pre-engineered, packaged system that uses reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltra-
tion (NF) technology.
The MegaMagnum® membrane element is the core technology of the system. It
is the world’s largest spiral-wound element, with 18-inch diameter and 61-inch
length. The number of elements used in a MegaMagnum system is one-seventh the
number of elements needed to produce the same water quantity and quality at the
same fouling rate using the standard system with 8-inch elements operating at simi-
lar pressures and fluxes.
A 18” x 61” MegaMagnum® spiral element contains 2,800 square feet of membrane surface area, compared to 400 square feet in commonly developed 8” x 40” RO element.

MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY
RO and NF are pressure-driven membrane technologies (about 100-300 psi) for purifying water. RO remove essen-
tially all dissolved particles including salts and organic molecules. NF membranes, on the other hand, selectively re-
move particles such as hardness, sulfate, phosphate and organics. Pressurized water is forced through the membranes,
leaving salts and organics behind in a concentrate stream and providing high purity water as end product.
The MegaMagnum® Systems are available in
four configurations.

The Matten Superflux™ System is best suited for water treat-
ment operations requiring ultra-pure water and water recovery
ratios greater than 90%. The equipment is compact, skid-
mounted, and modular for simple expansion. Operations are auto-
mated and simple.
Typical reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment systems can be
costly and difficult to operate. Membranes may foul easily and
require replacement, organics in the feed water are only moder-
ately rejected, and costly anti-scalant additions and activated
carbon pre-treatment are often required. Conventional RO sys-
tems typically exhibit a low operating flux and a product water
recovery of only 75%.
The Matten SUPERFLUX™ System is essentially immune to
fouling due to high operating pH of the reverse osmosis step, thus
extending the membrane life and increasing the operating flux by
up to two times that of conventional RO. It exhibits a higher rejec-
tion of organics, does not require anti-scalant additions, and has a
product water recovery of up to 95 percent.
Matten SUPERFLUX™ system
Total recovery of greater than 90%
 Lower capital cost
Less space required (25% to 30% less than standard RO)
Lower operating cost (15% to 20% lower than standard RO)
 No cleaning required
Can treat wastewater as well as ultra-pure water (UPW)
Higher recovery rates for high silica waters
Features and Benefits of using MATTERN SUPERFLUX™
MATTEN SUPERFLUX™ SYSTEM
The SUPERFLUX System uses three steps before reverse osmosis (RO).
1. CATION EXCHANGE
Weak acid cation (WAC) exchange resin is used to remove sodium and hardness
associated with alkalinity. Other cations (such as copper, barium, iron, manganese
and zinc) are also removed. In this step, the bicarbonate alkalinity in the water
is converted to carbon dioxide.
2. DEGASIFICATION
After the WAC ion exchange treatment, the water is passed through a counter -
current air stripper (membrane degasifier) to remove the carbon dioxide created in
the WAC ion exchange process. This step removes the buffering capacity of the
water, thereby minimizing caustic additions in the next step.
3. CAUSTIC ADDITION
In the high pH RO step, a small amount of caustic is used to increase the pH prior
to treatment.
