Methods and TutorsThe best 'Method' is a good teacher, but where such a personis not available the student can gain much help fromn publishedtreatises. Those by Roch and Pujol are in line with moderntechnique but there is much good material for study in theolder Methods of Aguado, Sor and Carcassi, etc. Part Two ofthe Carcassi Method has recently been reprinted by Schott,48 Great Marlborough Street, London (and Agents). DanielFortea (Biblioteca Fortea, Cruz 27, Madrid, Spain), has revisedhis Method and included English text in the new edition ofParts One and Two. These contain very useful exercises forthe student. First year studies (the first of ten parts) have alsobeen received from Portgual-José Duarte Costa (Rua CapitaoLeitao 23 Lisboa). Editions Cranz (Brussels, London, ete.),have issued Part Two of the Ranieri Method for Guitar. Thisis in English, French, German and Italian with many studiesfrom the old masters. The most original modern Method is theSchaller-Scheit Method-five parts (in German), published byUniversal Edition, Vienna. (British Commonwealth Agents,Alfred A. Kalmus, 24 Gt. Pulteney St., Regent Street, LondonW. 1.) The first two parts have now been published in an excel-lent English translation (6/ each); a musicianly work withclear technical explanations and specially written exercises.

New Solos and ListsSo much music has been published in recent months that itwould be impossible to list all of it.
