One day Torin went snowboarding with some friends. A foot of fresh powder had fallen during the night, and she inadvertently ventured onto untracked snow on a very steep run. Torin was making some fast, wide-open turns through the "pow" when she transferred her weight too far forward. The tip of her board got stuck in the snow, launching her into the air. Torin landed on her back with her left arm resting on her chest.
After the fall, Torin could not move her left arm. She felt severe left shoulder pain that grew in intensity until it reached a "ten" on a pain scale (with one being mild, and ten being unbearable). She felt dizzy, as if she were going into shock. The ski patrol arrived within ten minutes. The patroller made a sling to immobilize her arm, and evacuated her off the mountain on a snowmobile.
Torin was rushed to an urgent care clinic where this x-ray was obtained.
Torin is diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder.
