REVISING
•Think of revising as looking at your essay with a magnifying glass.•You’re looking at the BIG picture.
REVISINGThink of the acronym ROAM when revising:•Remove (irrelevant content)•Organize (paragraphing and flow)•Add (evidence, explanations, people, etc.)•Move (paragraphs and sentences)
EDITING
•Think of editing as looking at your essay through a microscope.•You’re looking at the small, sentence-level details.
EDITINGThink of the acronym MUGS when editing:•Mechanics (punctuation, spelling, citations, etc.)• Usage (word choice, pronoun reference, verb
tense, etc.)• Grammar (fragments, run-ons, etc.)• Style (concrete nouns, active verbs, short
sentences, short words)
