Clock Sequence

A way of connecting key points to an idea or mental picture that is already familiar to you. For example a clock face can help you sequence key ideas. You don’t have to have twelve items. It’s the thought that counts. You can remember different parts of the topic as hours on the clock.

9 o’clock - APOLLO 11 first man on the moon - Neil Armstrong - 20/7/69

12 o’clock - SHUTTLE -first re-usable space

vehicle

11 o’clock SKYLAB -

4 o’clock -GAGARIN -first man into orbit - 12/4/61

Annotation

(2) Knock-kneed , coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,

(5)... Many had lost their boots, But limped on, blood-shot. All went lame; all blind;

(17) If in some smothering dreams youtoo could pace

(3) Till on the haunting flames we turned our backs

(21) If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood come gurgling from the froth-corrupted lungs

Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen

(14) As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. In allmy dreams, before my hapless sight

(23)…, bitter as the cud of vile, incurable sores oninnocent tongues

(11) But someone still was yelling out and stumbling

(9) Gas ! Gas! Quick boys! - An ecstasyof fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;

(7) …; deaf even to the hoots of tired outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind

(19) And watch the white eyeswrithing in his face, his hangingface, like a devil’s sick of sin;

(16) He plunges at me, guttering, choking,drowning

(27) The old lie : Dulce et Decorum est Pro Patria Mori

How to Revise

What is a revision session ?

Think of a session as a third of a day - it could be 3 to 4 hours long

Many people find it helpful to revise for 2 out of the 3sessions per day.

How to Revise

Decision One: For how long should I revise?

Try asking yourself these questions

What amount of time will I need to tackle the tasks ahead of me ?

What lengths of time suit my attention span ?

Answering these questions will help you to create a time plan.

Revision Timetable Advice

Before you begin, here are a few things you need to work out first to make a revision timetable

•How many subjects do you have to study for?

•Are there any subjects you feel you might need to spend a bit moretime on during revision? For example, are there any that you didn’t doquite so well on in your mocks, or subjects that you are intending tostudy at A-level and need to do a bit more work on?

•Spread your subjects out too. And make sure you use a variety oftechniques. Do some note taking for one subject, some mind mapping for another and maybe try some past paper questions out for the next subject after that!

•Be specific with topics: Don’t write in French, Chemistry, Geography. Instead write French: Past Tense, Chemistry: Covalent Bonding, Geography: Plate Tectonics for example.
