Students could use a simple app like Mematic to create modern-day memes using historical images such as the Velocipede ageofrevolution.org/200-object/velocipede/ or artworks such as the statue of Boulton, Watt and Murdoch ageofrevolution.org/200-object/boulton-watt-and-murdoch-the-golden-boys-of-birmingham/. Students then research the image and write new, historically accurate memes and compare the two. Discuss the ways in which the historical context of the object, painting, sculpture or other source they have chosen relates to their lives today.
