The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts stands at the pinnacle of the world’s venues for great opera and dance – and now, we are proud to say, for the world’s finest musical theatre as well.

MISS SAIGON is a modern interpretation of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. Creators Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg (Les Misérables) were first inspired by a photo of a Vietnamese mother leaving her daughter at a departure gate for a plane headed to the United States, and presumably, a better life. The idea of a mother’s ultimate sacrifice is a central theme in MISS SAIGON.

Set in 1975 during the final days of the Vietnam war, MISS SAIGON is an epic love story between an American GI and a Vietnamese bar girl. Finding love in the unlikely environment of the Engineer’s nightclub, the young soldier and girl vow to be together forever. Separated during the fall of Saigon, Kim holds onto the dream Chris will one day return for her and their son, Tam. Years later, when Kim learns Chris is searching for her – but accompanied by his American wife – all her hopes to be reunited with him disappear.

Kim is desperate for her son to have a future with his father in America, and she will make the ultimate sacrifice to achieve her dream.

It all started in 1989 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London where MISS SAIGON premiered, and closed after an astonishing 4,264 performances. It later opened at the Broadway Theatre in New York City unfolding its magic before audiences for 10 years making it the 10th longest-running Broadway show.

We would like to thank our friends at the Canadian Opera Company for opening up their home to us, where together we are invigorating Toronto’s cultural renaissance, and to our co-producers, the Pittsburgh CLO, who have been the driving force behind live musical theatre in Pittsburgh and the entire Southwestern Pennsylvania region.

Finally, we thank you for being a part of our inaugural summer Broadway series at the Four Seasons Centre. Don’t miss our second summer series production, the Tony Award®- winning, Lincoln Center Theater Production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s SOUTH PACIFIC from August 12 – September 5, 2010. Visit DancapTickets.com for more info.

Enjoy the Show!
