Nature ExplorationsNordic Night AdventuresSaturdays 5:30-7:30 p.m. December 28-March 15, 2014 Explore WV’s Nordic trail system at night. Listen and look for nocturnal wildlife, learn constellations and more. Hot cocoa awaits. Bring your gear or rent from the Nordic Center. If renting, gear must be picked up by 4:45pm; we will leave the Rey Center at 5:30pm. Designed for adults & families with youth ages 7+. Transportation provided. Advance Registration Requested.Program Fee: $7/person & $16/family for Rey Center members; $10/person or $23/family for not-yet-members (up to 4 people per family)*Additional fees may apply for gear rental and trail pass through Nordic Center.(Not available February 15, 2014)Held extra days during vacation weeks. Nordic Kids with Curious George Story Time & CraftSaturdays 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. December 28-March 15, 2014Play games and activities on skis or snowshoes en route to the Curious George Cottage, then have a snack, hear stories and create Curious George themed crafts. It all ends with an extra fun race back to Town Square! If renting gear please arrive at Nordic Center by 9:30am. We will leave the Rey Center at 10:00am. Pre-registration required. Drop-off for Ages 5 & Older, Ages 5 and under parent must attend with child (no program fee for adult).Program Fee: $14/child for Rey Center members, $18/child for not-yet-members*Additional fees may apply for gear rental and trail pass through Nordic Center.

Curiosity Club for KidsFirst Wednesday of each month 10:30a.m.-noon October–March**Dig into science during this monthly program designed for homeschool families. Each program will explore a different theme from the soil beneath our feet to the stars above our heads. Dress to be outdoors. A White Mountain WinterDecember 28–March 1, 2014Opening reception: Sunday, Decem-ber 29 6:00–7:30 p.m.This exhibit features works by local artists in a variety of media depicting winter scenes of the White Mountain region. A Student ExhibitMarch 8–April 26, 2014Featuring the works of exceptional high school students from several high schools in the region. Each school will choose their own media and subject matter. Come see some of the area's most talented up-and-coming artists.

Artisan Fair November 29–December 22, 2013Get a head start on your holiday shopping! A variety of local artisans will be displaying and selling their arts and crafts - everything from handmade holiday ornaments to quilts to watercolors.

Adult Art Workshops Curious about watercolors?

Watercolor for Beginner to Intermediate with Shirley FitzGeraldMonday, Feb. 3 – Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 1:00-4:00 p.m.Take this workshop to acquire techniques you can use in all your paintings! This workshop is for beginners to intermediates. You will work from a still life to advance the way you look at any subject to paint. This will provide a better understanding of shap-ing, perspective, & light. Bring your brushes and paint and Shirley will supply the rest. Adults and youth ages 15+. Advance registration required. Fee: $100 per person for Rey Center members, $120 for not-yet-members.Location: Curious George Cottage

Watercolor Techniques with Shirley FitzGeraldMonday, Mar. 10 & Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2014 1:00-4:00 p.m.Explore some of the many ways to achieve effects in watercolor. The class is for begin-ners to the more advanced. You will work in small thumb nails that can be incorporated in larger paintings. Tamsin will provide the layout for a landscape scene, and then together, step-by-step, you will paint. All materials included. No experience necessary. You will leave with a completed painting. Infatuated with Snow Lecture Series"Passion for Snow" the movieFriday, December 27, 7:00 p.m.Based on the book Passion for Skiing (2010), the story begins with the first Dartmouth Winter Carnival and traces 100+years of ski history through the present day. It explains how the college and many of its alumni contributed to every aspect of the formation and continuing developments in today’s $25 billion snow sports industry. Followed by a panel discussion. Fee: $10/person.

Over the Headwall: The Ski History of Tuckerman Ravineby Jeff LeichFriday, January 17, 7:00 p.m.Tuckerman Ravine has drawn skiers since 1913, along with a handful of expert photographers who documented the outstanding scenery and exciting ski action. Learn the history of the ravine and how it affected skiing, from the earliest ski mountaineers to the telemark revival and advent of the snowboard, by Jeff Leich, director of the N.E. Ski Museum.

Getting to Know Snow by Mary StamponeFriday, February 21, 7:00 p.m.Get to know snow from expert Mary Stampone as she sheds light on the future of winter sports in NH! Mary Stampone is an assistant professor of geography at UNH and a state climatologist. As a UNH faculty member, she teaches courses in weather and climate and conducts research in climate system science.

Moose on the Edge by Kristine RinesFriday, March 14, 7:00 p.m.Kristine Rines, NH Fish & Game biologist, will share historical changes, life history, current status, management and research on New Hampshire’s moose herd, which exists on the southern edge of North American Moose range. The program will include lots of stories and a discussion of how a changing climate may already be influencing our moose.

About the Margret & H.A. Rey CenterMargret and H.A. Rey, authors of the Curious George children’s book series and former summer residents of Waterville Valley. New Hampshire, were artists and adventurers, historians and naturalists, gardeners and environmental stewards. Today their pursuits live on in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the Reys’ spirit of curiosity and discovery by increasing understanding of and participation in art, science and nature through programs for youth, adults and families.
