Foreword

This record }ia~s been compiled with the idea of preserving what information we have about the early generations of the Lawrence family and bringing the record to date. The early records have been taken from The Genealogy of the Family of John Lawrence of Wisset, in Suffolk, England, by John Lawrence. Thiy work ran into four editions from 1347 to 1876 and can be found in The Newberry Library in Chicago.

The later records have been compiled from information I have received from various members of the family through correspondence. Without this assistance my work would have been impossible and I wish to thank all the kind people who have so generously contributed their work and time. Especially to Mrs. Helen Druse Schwartze, Mrs.Mary Glenn Wyley, Mrs. Alice Euretta Lee, Mrs, Maude Chambers, Mrs. Clara A.Druse Tubbesing, and to Mrs. Winnifred Lawrence do I express appreciation for the detailed and complete records sent to me.

Corresponding with these members of the Lawrence clan has been very pleasant, especially to me who am a Lawrence on both sides, my mother Mary E. Lawrence having married her cousin Edwin L.Lawrence.

Errors are bound to have occurred in a record of this kind, but it is hoped that they are minor ones and that interested readers will report mistakes to me so that any future compilation can be corrected.

Stars after names in the entries refer to the military record at the end of this book.
