Islam heute weltweit verbreitet. Seine explosi-
onshafte Ausbreitung hat ihn tatsächlich inter-
nationalisiert.
This series depicts the assimilation of Muslim communities and Muslim immigrants in western societies. The issue is the adherence to Shari’ah or Islamic law, its confl ict with secular western law and the limitations imposed by it. At issue is the basic right to practice one’s religion freely and openly. This has become an alarming topic for many Euro-pean host countries. Adherence to secular law by all of its citizens is a common way to unify a country consisting of diverse communities. A fear of cultural erosion is causing a direct confl ict between local law and the law of Islam. The result is the direct opposite of assimilation. Muslims in the West are trying to maintain a stronger grip on their cultural and religious identity. Once limited in geographical scope, Islam is no longer regional. Its explosive growth has truly made it international. This series couples the reality of images thought to be totally incongruous only a short time ago.

Eines der herausragenden Talente Irans ist Ahoo
Hamedi. Sie wurde 1981 in Iran geboren. Hamedi
Art (= Hochschulabschluss in Geisteswissenschaf-
Painters». Gegenwärtig lebt und arbeitet sie in
Teheran.
One of Iran’s promising young talents is Ahoo Hamedi. She was born in 1981 in Iran. Hamedi studied at the Azad University of Fine Arts, Tehran, where she received her BA. Ahoo Hamedi’s paintings are matured works of art that bear resemblance to sketches a painter would draw to start a major project. Her style is character-ized by a striking lightness that refl ects skill with watercolor, absence of background, lucid brushstrokes and clarity of the fi nished work. The completed and signed paintings she presents to the viewer are as though the painter has painted them for herself. Each painting could be a page of her diary; like the scattered thoughts we put on paper to somehow explore our identity: notes made with the intention of self-discovery. The search for one’s self is an endeavor of not just this painter, but an entire generation that, like Ahoo Hamedi, feels lost in a society where a broad gap divides the existing reality and the publicized ideology. Hamedi has had solo and group exhibitions in such countries as Iran, UK, Canada, and Dubai. She is also a member of the Association of Iranian Painters. Ahoo Hamedi is presently living and working in Tehran.

Here all the doors are numbered.Aisles are long, cold and dark. The offi cial ceremony will be held in the big room; The Funeral of the nameless coffi n.Here the silence is heavy, and only a murmur can be
heard …The uniforms are neat and clean and in the darkness
of the room; they become more black and obscure.…
Everyone is waiting for the enchanting and lascivious woman to say something.
They say that she is the angel of justice; She doesn’t have the scale anymore.Maybe she never had one.People say the scale doesn’t work; it is made from
stone. The men in uniform are happy; This could be understood from the seriousness of
their faces.…
The enchanting woman doesn’t say a word. She only shows her lascivious breast. Her attracting eyes are not covered anymore; The men in uniform have banded her blind on the
eyes of the motherMother doesn’t say anything. She only murmurs. She took refuge in the Book She only murmurs An unmeaning murmurMaybe she is talking to herself Maybe she is prayingHer murmurs are tormentingContinuous and nippingOnly if they had bound the blind on her mouth To help us not hear the murmurs…
It is said that her stare is more grave and dangerous…
The angel of justice doesn’t say anythingAs if she is without the tonguePeople say, that one night The butchers, in a distant desert,Have cut her tongue and threw it for the dogs; And from that night, the dogs bark in the night.…
She doesn’t say anything She just caresses her breast and throws lascivious
glancesThey say she breast feed all the uniformed men of
the world and makes love to them every nightAnd they tell her their stories insteadIt is said that they are her illegitimate sons – even
though she doesn’t have any legitimate ones –……
This ceremony is held every week, afternoon, from fi ve to eight
Even if there would be no corpse in the coffi n…
In silence and in lust …The Whoredom of the angel …She may fi nd a new costumer for the night.…
Public observe the ceremony in silence and respect ……
It is only the commander who beats on his triangle at the end of the ceremony
Mother doesn’t murmur anymoreOnly her lips are movingShe has taken refuge in the book…
The coffi n remains where it was;White and empty.

Kunst und schätzt, was vom Herzen kommt.
ganzen Welt.
Painter and musician Reza Derakshani was born in Sangsar, NE of Iran. Although studies in Iran and the USA spanned the entire spectrum of art forms, it is within contemporary painting that Derakshani has experienced true liberation and fulfi llment as an artist. The challenging techniques and mental stimulation inherent in contemporary art have led him to create a meditative solitude that results in pure freedom of self-expression. Known for his many layered contemporary approach to his cultural heritage, from poetry and music to visual arts, Derakshani values what comes from the heart. Placing no limits on creativity, he is aware that Persian traditions and the long and complex history of the region are a vital part of his vision and are what ultimately determines his identity while being consid-ered an international artist.Derakshani lives and works in Tehran and has works in collections around the globe.
