ABSTRACT
The Indian telecommunication industry, with more than 851.7 million total number of mobile
phone connections as of June 2011, is the fastest growing in the world and is projected that India is now
having a 'billion plus' mobile users. The Indian telephone lines have increased from a meagre 40 million
(approx.) in the year 2000 to an astounding figure now. The main reason for this extraordinary growth is
because of GSM technology.
The Simulation of GSM mobile network planning is done by using Atoll planning tool. This
project involves hands-on simulation exercise on planning of RF network with the help of Atoll planning
software tool. The main aim of radio network planning is to provide a cost-effective solution for the radio
network in terms of coverage, capacity and quality. Here we make use of the Propagation model
parameters viz., Traffic Erlangs, Cell Site Database, latitude &longitude of the site location, Antenna
Parameters viz., Tilt, Pattern, Gain, losses, etc.
Atoll enables task automation through a standard macro language, and includes an advanced
C++ software development kit that facilitates Atoll enables customisation and IT integration. The final
radio plan consists of the RF coverage plans, capacity estimations, radio frequency plans, etc. of a
mobile network area.

How to select the sites for new
networky Survey the area and take the Latitude/Longitudes of all
the important locations
y
Plot them on the RF
planning tool.y Select the appropriate site locations in the map for
covering all the area to be covered and with good
coverage at all the important locations.
y Then survey the selected locations above for feasibility
and finalize.
y Select the type of the sites required at the above
locations (Micro/Macro/Umbrella coverage)
