EPCIS, originally stood for EPCInformation Sharing, its objective isto enable disparate application s to

leverage Electronic Product Code(EPC) data via EPC-related data

sharing, both within and acrossenterprises. Due to the wild rangeof objectives and approaches in

achieving information sharing, theSAG and FMCG BAG have agreed

to define the EPCIS as informationservice-oriented, standard interfaceof capturing and querying EPC-

standard data, in order to avoid theterm from being overly constrainedin the technical approach. Thus

EPCIS now is redefined as EPCInformation Service.
