President’s Message By Carmelita “Bel” Raimundo ‘65*

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends,

It’s good to be back after a 3-month vacation. We recently had our class reunion as well as a get-together with our Financial Aid Program recipients. Some batchmates and I attended the ribbon cutting and blessing of the RHS Ecumenical Prayer House, a testament to what

could be accomplished when RHS alumni work together.

It was heartwarming to hear the recipients express their grati-tude for the grant they are receiving and their desire to pay it forward as soon as they are in the position to do so.

My own Batch ‘65, the Golden Jubilarians, together with Batch-es ‘75, ‘85, and ‘90 hosted the celebrations at the RHS Gymna-sium on December 5, 2015. It was fun reconnecting with high school friends and meeting new ones; looking back to the good old days when hair was black and wrinkles were unthinkable; reminiscing about the lessons learned in the classrooms and the lessons learned the hard way; and catching up on milestones and short anecdotes from the past several years.

Reunions are always fun so we hope you can all join us in cele-brating the RHSAA, NA’s 25th anniversary celebration on Sep-tember 24, 2016 in Las Vegas and place ads in our souvenir pro-gram. Your support will help raise funds for the Financial Aid Program.

Newly Appointed Board Director Edward C. Malimban Sr. RHS Class 1965*

Ed obtained his BA degree in Criminology in 1970 from the Philippine College of Criminology in the Philippines. He passed his civil service eligibility exam at NAPOLCOM in 1971.

He immigrated to USA in 1972 and worked as a teacher’s assis-tant at Los Angeles County in California for five years. Upon relocating to Northern California in 1980, he ventured to work in several electronic companies in the Silicon Valley. He finally decided to stay for good with Toshiba America Micro-electronics Center in Sunnyvale, California where he worked up the ranks and was a Senior Test Production Supervisor until his retirement in 2010.

He joined batch 1965’s 50th Grand Reunion celebrations at the RHS Main Campus Gymnasium and other class activities which included out of town trips, bingo sessions and dinner-dance.

Ed Malimban was inducted during the Board Meeting on Nov. 07, 2015 at Dragon House Restaurant in Union City, CA

Ludie Abeto Litz RHS Class 1966* Ludie has been a lifetime member since 2010 when she was residing in the beautiful city of Corpus Christi, Texas. She loves the out-doors and gets her sun-kissed glow basking in the sun on golf courses and tennis courts where she met friends and acquiantan-ces who surely miss her since her move to Las Vegas, Nevada early this year.

What sets her apart is her gener-osity. She also has this knack at getting people involved, they simply can't refuse when Ludie asks for help. This ability was evident in the success of the Class of 1966 Get Together at Tanghalang Pasigueno, Pasig City. It was awe-inspiring wit-nessing how successful it was. Together with her batchmates Bing Pierce and others from the U.S., Canada and other parts of the world, they were able to raise funds; and through the hard work of local batchmates - under the lead-ership of Sally dela Paz Magat, the event was at full blast with sumptuous food, entertainment (group dancing, karao-ke) raffle drawings, prizes. The event was graced with the presence of current Pasig Mayor Ms. Maribel Eusebio.

At least 30 balikbayan attendees, some with their better halves, flew in from across three continents to join & bond with batchmates in Pasig on the occasion of our Golden An-niversary. We enjoyed a variety of activities, namely a day trip to Pansol, 2 nights at Sitio Remedios Beach Resort in Ilocos Norte, a picnic at new lifetime member Nellie Diman-lig’s family’s farm in Tanay, and a 60’s themed grand senior prom with live-band music held at the Twin Oaks Place in Pasig. The party concluded with heart-warming and emotion-al singing, with everyone holding hands in a circular for-mation, to theme songs they have adopted throughout the years: Times of Your Life, Have a Good Time, Those Were the Days, and In My Life, to name a few.

The RHS 2015 Grand Alumni Homecoming celebration culmi-nated on December 5, 2015, with the “Balik Tanaw sa 100 Taon ng Tagumpay” ceremony at the RHS gym. The celebra-tion was hosted by Batch ’65, the Golden Jubilarian, along with batches ’55, ’75, and ’85.

Over the years, a few Batch ‘65 members have been nomi-nated and awarded several Teodora Awards in their respec-

tive fields. Awardees include Dr. Ester Bitanga, Atty. Oscar Embido and Eng. Victorio Mejia, with Mr. Raul Tuazon and Mr. Romulo Ison joining them this year.

We are thankful for the warm reception we received, and the organization and planning of the Batch ’65 Philippines organ-izers. All of us from Batch ’65 are grateful for this once in a lifetime experience that everyone will cherish forever.

As a way of giving back to our alma mater, we have been making donations to RHS & the Alumni Association through-out the years, both in cash and in kind, such as computers, printers, chairs and tables, etc..

Incidentally, I participated in the Alumni song writing contest sponsored by Batch ‘65. Although my composition written in English was not adjudged the winner, Batch ‘65 has adopted the song as its alumni hymn in their gatherings and events. I have also introduced the song to other RHS alumni batches that have shown fervor & eagerness to also adopt the hymn in their respective reunion activities.

The Batchmates '66 of Rizal High School in Pasig City, Philippines held a highly successful private event named "REMINISCENCES : A GET TOGETHER " . It was a three day event held alternately in Feb. 2016 : Feb. 3 - Celebration ; and Feb. 7 - Outing . The spe-cial event was held with the full support of Pasig City Mayor Maribel A. Eusebio, Rizal High School Principal Ms. Virginia Mem-brebe, the Rizal High School Alumni Association, Inc. and the RHSAA, North America. More than 200 batchmates (BMs) 1966 attended the special event with at least 40 BMs and their families from the USA, Canada, Asia and Europe coming home to be part of this historic gathering.

The get together was planned as early as Oct. 2013 by the core group initiated by Sally dela Paz Magat and Bing Pierce (aka Her-minia Reyes) which eventually grew and gained the support of majority of the BMs 66. A series of meetings in the Philippines and

the USA was held as well as online communication through group chat, email and Facebook were conducted. By Feb. 2014, the date was finalized to give the BMs enough time to prepare, especially those based abroad, to book their flights. The BMs met monthly and as necessary to put the plans together as the enthusiasm built up among the BMs in different parts of the world. Soon, the word was out. The invitations were issued and the BMs started arriving as early as Dec. 2015. It was always a happy welcome party for each arrival. By Sally dela Paz Magat ‘66

What a beautiful day in Bagac, Bataan! Yes it was a three-hour-drive from Pasig City to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Bataan. Thank you Philippine Leadership for a well thought educational day trip. The architect who is the brain of this resort is Jerry Acuzar. His idea is to preserve and showcase our Filipino history and craftsmanship reflecting the Filipino way of life during the 18th century. So far he has accumulated 57 houses, row of com-mercial buildings from Escolta, two hotels and a church. There were a total of 34 people who attended the day tour with our own tour guide to explain the history of at least 5 old houses and helped us take group photos.

There is a beach to swim in but most of all the food is good. We had an “ala carte” lunch in a restaurant inside one of the houses. The yummy taro ice cream with toasted pinipig on top was a treat for the humid weather. The US Balikbayans are Tessie dela Cruz Reyes, Dorie Antonio, Carmelita Mariano Perez, Lolita Esquerra Reyes, Estrella Alan-Stephens, Priscilla Purugganan Cruz, Mario Raymundo & Alicia Dingal Webb. Batch ‘61 Hits The Road to Celebrate 55th Anniversary Batch‘66 Celebrates "Reminiscences: A Get Together"

Batch ‘66 Tagaytay Outing—Feb.07, 2016

From the Co-Editors’ Desk (Bel and Estry) We apologize for the late publication of this issue. We both took our vacation to attend our Class ‘65 Golden Jubilee for Bel and Class ‘61 55th Anniversary for me. And when we came back, it’s the tax preparation rush.

Likewise, I enjoyed being with my batchmates again after five years. Although we didn’t have the full batch compared to our 50th reunion, we managed to reminisce the school days with frolic and fun in the classrooms and around the main campus. Some suggested we should meet again in two years. To me it’s something to look forward to… we’ll see what comes next.

Now we’re back to roll our sleeves and prepare for our 25th anniversary celebration on September 24 in Las Vegas. Since social media is now the trend to reach or find our batchmates or friends, let us engage in using our Facebook page - Rizal High School Alumni Association, NA. Please spread the word and invite your RHS alumni friends and batchmates to the event.

August 29, 2015 Wisconsin, USA Dear American-Canadian Friends, Colleagues & Relatives, It's time for us to go home. Time to re-join the family. It's been 16 wonderful years with you friends. Thanks for your friendship. We will never forget you. So-long friends, till we meet again! Let's keep in touch. Ed and Nieva Escall

September 20, 2015 Victoria, Australia There's not many American shows on air. We are now getting used to Aussie TV shows. There are Australian versions of DWTS, The Bach-elor & XFactor and replay of Late Night Show. Like Super Bowl, it is the Final Season of the Aussie Rules Foot-ball - the main Sport show this time where Fans go crazy. Cricket is not on yet. To watch my favorite Sun-day Meet the Press I have to wake up at 4 am Mondays, and to get updates on other US news I go to the Internet. This week, we had a new Australian Prime Minister. The rebel party group suc-ceeded in ousting the incumbent PM. Slowly, things are becoming normal for us. We now think that we are not visitors anymore but residents. Ed and Nieva Escall

Note: Ed and Nieva always shared their photos taken during RHSAA, NA fundraising events. We will miss them both!

Reunion class organizers,

Please contact me if you have any suggestions for our next reunion. It could be a different venue outside California. It could be a bus trip, cruise trip, a mix of bus and train trip, etc. We had fun and we mixed well from last time with other alumni batches. Let us explore places while we can, especially the retirees. Email me with your phone number to discuss your ideas at [email protected]. Thank you...Estry
