Tamil Examination Results

Congratulations to all students! The academic standard of our Tamil School is reflected on the performance of our students in the annual Tamil examinations. As per usual, our students have maintained the school’s reputation with a fantastic 98.3% pass rate. I hope all students can reflect on their performance in the examination and continue to work hard and succeed.

Saivite (Hindu) Examinations

All students who took the Saivite examinations conducted by the Vivekananda Society of Sri Lanka passed with very high scores. We are proud of all the students who took part in these exams. The exam will take place in November; candidates wishing to take the exam can either get a form from the Tamil School office or download from the school website.

Tamil Thiṟaṉ Competitions

The annual Tamil Thiṟaṉ Competitions will be taking place a bit earlier. Instead of late February, the competitions will be held in early January. Therefore, application forms will be released in December and the deadline for the application forms will be the last day of term (21.12.2018).

Bharathiyar, the Revolutionary

The 20th Century was a time when patriarchal societies existed. The men had power

and rights. On the other hand, women were confined to their houses; they had very

few rights in terms of education, politics and job opportunities. In such a time,

Bharathi aimed to correct society : he set out to teach equality and feminism through

his songs. Our ancestors introduced discriminatory systems e.g. caste-based systems

and he also opposed these. He fought against racism, discrimination, caste based

treatment, sexism – all of which we still encounter and protest against today.
