Facts

This song is a romantic song. It follows many conventions of typical music videos for this genre.

This music video is set on a beach. I think this is quite conventional to the genre of romantic music. A beach is a very relaxing and often see couples there together. It is a nice, endearing setting. The beach scene suits the lyrics, ‘deep like the sea’, ‘warm sun’.

MISE-EN-SCENE

Throughout the video there are many representations of love, which fits in with the lyrics and the story of the song.

Throughout the video there is a black frame around the film, I think this is a nice effect, it makes it look like it is being projected, or like it’s an old fashioned film.

The music video uses young people in it. This may be the target audience of the song. They are all represented as fun, happy, young people. This representation of young people fits the song as it is quite cheery and happy. A lot of the people used are in couples representing the message of love. Although not all are, this may show the audience that you don’t need to be loved up to be happy and have fun. The mise-en-scene in some bits, such as the ones above, looks as if it is meant to be shown quite long ago, possibly in the 70’s. I get this feeling due to the old fashioned cars used and the way people are dressed. This may be representing those days were happy and fun.

There is only 2 settings in the video, the beach at daytime and the beach at night time. More props are used in the one at night, they use more lighting which makes the scene look very relaxed and romantic as it is only dim. It is a beach party, but not the expected wild ones for the target audience ages, it is more fun and chilled out, the scene continuously skips from day to night. The band is starred in the scene, as if they’re performing at this beach party. You can see in the video there is a lot of young people here, dancing and enjoying themselves, as they are in the daytime by running around and throwing water balloons. The idea of fun and happiness seems to be continued through the music video, as the song is about love, this may be a way of describing feelings… joyful, exciting, lively, warm.

Throughout the music video the camera follows the main singer of the band. This may represent that the song is a story, as it is following and watching what he is doing, the song could possibly be his story. Also many close up are used of him.

Near the end of the video, it is mostly set on the beach at night. Young people are shown with sparklers, this again represents the feeling of fun and happiness which is a continuous theme throughout the video. The sparks may also represent the feeling of having a spark with somebody when in love.

Many effects are used in the video, over scene a pinky kind of effect is over the scene, or used when changing scenes. The colour pink often represents love, this may explain why it was used, as the song and video is about love. Slow motion effects are often used through the video too, slow motion may represent a relaxed feeling, which suits the song.
