When Gay and I began practicing law, we joined my father-in-law, Gilmer Blackburn, in his law firm. He had been practicing law in Decatur, Alabama, for more than 25 years and, in that time, had also served for six years as the mayor of our city. One of the first things he taught us when we joined the firm — something he never stopped teaching, by word and by example — was the importance of paying what he referred to as our “civic rent.”

He considered paying your civic rent an obligation similar to paying your taxes or contributing to your place of worship. You benefit from being here, and those benefits are not free. You need to give something back for the privilege of being part of your community.

Organizations like Rotary allow us to pay our civic rent to our local and global communities. And when we join Rotary — when we work to keep the organization itself strong, when we give back through Rotary with our abilities, our time, and our resources — we are declaring that we know that our presence in this world carries with it the obligation to serve.

All of the service that Rotary does, all of the lives we change, all of the children in the world who will never, ever get polio — all of this happens because we, joining together through Rotary, are strong. Because Rotarians, with the family of Rotary, have risen to the challenge and with each passing year strive to make our world a better place.

Rotary Year 2019-20 is a very special year for Rotary India as we celebrate 100 years of Rotary in India.

To celebrate this centennial milestone our district has inspired a Pan India Green Movement through our Rotary ‘Koti Nati’, a concept of planting 1 crore tree saplings in the revenue districts of our Rotary District. This concept will be replicated by the other districts and Rotary ‘Koti Nati’ may achieve 100 Crore tree saplings to celebrate a century of doing good in India.

Each Rotarian can Dazzle by helping Grow Rotary, involving Family of Rotary, connectingwith other major organisations like the UN and other NGOs to Expand our Reach, Increaseour Impact, Enhance Participation Engagement and Increase our ability to Adapt.

Rotary Clubs too can Dazzle if they progress towards becoming Effective and Vibrant clubs.Effective clubs grow and sustain membership, implement successful service projects,contribute to The Rotary Foundation and build leadership beyond the club level. Vibrant Clubs involve and engage their members, develop deep and strong relationships, ensure good governance and reflect diversity and personality of its members.

At the outset. I humbly thank all my Rotary members giving me an opportunity & bestowing the responsibility to serve the club in the capacity of President for the year 2019-20.

I feel ecstasy & honor to be President of this prestigious club Rotary Bengaluru Vijayanagar (RBV).. Rotary Bengaluru Vijayanagar (RBV) is known for its Structural Protocol & dedicated Community Service activities imparting service from past 3 decades & I ensure you all that year 2019-20 will take another leap with the support of my good Rotarians.

Rtr Pramod Gowda took the Public Relations and Social Media of Rotaract Bangalore Vijayanagar to a different level during his two year tenure as the PR Director with projects like online photography contest. He is a Mechanical Engineer who has a patent for leg operated wheelchair for the physically challenged is now working in a US based health care company. He is also a professional photographer who has found his passion in it. He had a herculean task ahead of him as the 30th President of Rotaract Bangalore Vijayanagar and he pulled it off like a pro by taking RBV to new heights. She resurrected the Secretarial Avenue of Rotaract Vijayanagar like a pheonix as promised during her induction as a Secretary for the term 2018-19. She is the epitome of professionalism RBV has ever seen. Rtr Vanitha has a masters in biochemistry and completed her education from the prestigious Central College Bangalore. Her commitment and dedication towards her career has made her a team lead in pharmacovigilance department of Quintiles, a US based firm. The award winning flagship project of RBV, Prajagruti was chaired by her and the project has been in the limelight since it's inception. She also won awards for the most Promising Annual report submission and the best President-Secretary combination along with Rtr Pramod Gowda. Apart from being a very professional Rotaractor for RBV and a dedicated employee of Quintiles she is also a National level Netball player. Currently selected as the President of Rotaract Bangalore Vijayanagar for the year 2019-20 she has set the expectations soaring high.

Even before starting a new term with a new role and responsibility, I want to thank my beloved Parent Club-Rotary Bangalore Vijayanagar for their exceptional contribution towards Rotaract Movement and for making such a great significance in Rotaract Bangalore Vijayanagar's growth. Year after year, Rotary and Rotaract is showing a great meaning and incredible commitment towards their bonding and the amount of work they are accomplishing together. It has been an exceptional year for relationship with our parent club Rotary Bangalore Vijayanagar.
