RIB MOUNTAINGARDEN STROLLJuly 4th Weekend of 2014

BACK YARD STONE CIRCLEEvery garden ornament was collected at a different time and place, each with its own set of memories—such as the monkey on a surfboard.

2ND BACK YARD GARDEN CIRCLEHostas, coleus and flowering sedum fill in the circle around the statue, while garden geese promenade outside the circle.

VIRGIN MARY GROTTOTwo overgrown pine trees were removed and replaced with smaller ones, one of which can be seen next to the fountain.

BEHIND THE HOUSEA rain gauge, solar light and mallard ornament, among others, hide in this greenery. Can you spot them?

IN FRONT OF THE HOUSEThe flower bed in front of the house was cleared out, and the overgrown bushes in front of the doorsteps were removed.

GARDEN WHIMSYGnomes, earthworms, mushrooms and Green Bay Packers are given equal attention in this flower bed.

LAKE MICHIGAN REMINDERSeagulls and pelicans are as close as the Great Lakes . . . although this arrangement might be more reminiscent of Ventura Harbor in southern California, where the Nolans visited family members.

FLYING GOOSEAs long as the weather cooperates, this goose flies in memory of Judy’s father, who flew the same bird in his yard.

TWIRLING WINDCATCHERSYou’ll find every shape and size of windcatcher twirling in the front yard, reflecting the sunlight, too at different times of the day.

FRONT YARD GARDEN CIRCLEHumble daisies highlight the granite rock (found locally) in this stone circle.

HUMMINGBIRDTRELLISNewly added to the front yard this year is this lovely hummingbird trellis, gifted by Mark and Lynn.

FRONT OF THE HOUSEThe overgrown plants and bushes in front of the house were removed, and the doorsteps will be repainted soon. The flag? It always flies, not just during the 4th of July.

COLORFUL COLEUSIt’s amazing how many colors you can find in coleus plants. This is a close-up of them from the back yard.

A WOLF AMONG THE SEDUMYou’d expect a forest, not sedum, to surround this little garden wolf. Sedum comes in large and small flowering varieties.
