Ribadesella is a small municipality in the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias, Spain. Located
on the Cantabrian Sea, and at the outlet of the River Sella. It is bordered on the east by Llanes, on the south by
Cangas de Onís and Parres, and on the west by Caravia.

History of Ribadesella
• Ribadesella includes the Tito Bustillo Cave (Cueva de Tito Bustillo), known for its prehistoric wall paintings of animals and figures, probably dating from the Magdalenian age (29,000 years ago).
• The first written references to the settlement are more recent, and date from the first century BC. These come from the Greek geographer Strabo, who speaks of the River "Noega" separating "the Astures of Cantabrians". The people of Ribadesella at this time were called the Salaenos: they dominated Colunga, Arriondas and Llanes.
The descent of the Sella
• The International descent of the Sella is celebrated the first Saturday after the 2nd of August between Arriondas and Ribadesella. Its length is about 20km
• It’s organized by the Spanish Canoeing Federation
• It’s declared party of international touristic interest
History of the descent of the Sella
• It began in1930.
• In 1929, Dionysus de la Huerta, the Dr. Benigno Morán and Manés Fernandez made a trip across the river Piloña from Coya to Infiesto using two hours and a half. This trip of a few friends was the origin of the current descent Two years later, It was celebrated the first two edition.
