Please have application filled out for each child/cook participating in the Kids Q. The Kids Q is a KCBS Ancillary event. The 2018 event will be limited to the first 20 entries per age group, we may expand it to more in the future.

Cooks Meeting at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 7th; Grill Masters set up begins at 06:15 PM, Cooking for the Grill Masters will begin at 6:30 PM with Judging at 7:30 PM. Pit Masters will set up at 7:45 and cooking will begin at 8:00 PM with Judging at 9:00 PM. Winners and Awards will be presented at 9:30 PM Friday, at the “CorTrust” Main Stage.

This is a KCBS sanctioned event with all KCBS rules applicable. The official KCBS rules are available on their website. www.kcbs.us. Click on ‘About KCBS’ and then click on Rules and Regulations.

Kid’s Q Official KCBS Rules and Regulations

A cook’s meeting for both ages groups will be held at 6:00 PM in the cook area on Main St in

front of Mead Lumber. All competitors must attend this meeting and be accompanied by an adult.

There will be two (2) age group distinctions: Grill Masters 7-11 and Pit Masters 12-16

Please remember this is a Kids contest.

We will have contest officials in the cooking area observing the cooks and if any major violations occur, the officials will have the authority to ask a parent or helper who is doing too much of the work for the child to stop

and determine if the violation has given the child an unfair advantage, an exception to this would be starting the

charcoal. Unless your child is a younger competitor such as 7 or 8 years old, he or she must do all of the

preparation. That includes adding seasoning, marinating, tending the product while it is cooking, testing for

doneness, cutting and preparing it for presentation, preparing the turn in box and taking the turn-in box to the

judge’s area. We encourage your child to practice these steps at home so they are familiar with them and ready to

compete.

If you feel your child cannot do some of the above steps, please contact one of the officials and a decision will be

made on how much, if any, the parent may help. Competitors with disabilities are eligible and encouraged to compete, but will need do as much as they are able with some help from an assigned person.

Hamburger Each contestant will be provided a ½ lb. of Hamburger for the two ¼ lb. Burgers that will be turned in. The meat

must be kept on ice a prior to start of cooking. It must remain raw and have no rubs, marinades, etc. on it prior to

cook time beginning. You may add any marinades, rubs, injections etc. that you wish as soon as the official starts

the cooking time. You can prepare the meat in any way you like with any condiments or as you see fit. Only your

prepared burgers should be place in the judge’s box, garnish will be allowed as per KCBS rules.

Cooking

Ribs, Rods, Rock'n Roll will designate an area on Main St. for cooking. All foods must be cooked over charcoal

and MUST be cooked in the approved area. Food, once cooked/prepared cannot leave the cook area until it is

turned in for judging. The competitor must do the preparation, cooking and turn in. Parents may help (with the

approval of the officials) with fires and slicing or anything considered dangerous. A parent (or responsible

adult) must be present with the competitor during the entire cooking process, but cannot do the work.

Turn In. Turn in will be made at the approved judging area. You will be given a 9 x 9 Styrofoam container for turn in at the

Cook’s meeting. Each container will have your number on it. That is the top of the box. Boxes will follow the

KCBS rules, that is, nothing in the box but the Burger as completed and the optional allowable garnishes (green

leaf lettuce, cilantro, kale or parsley).

Turn in times – You have a 10-minute window, 5 minutes before - until 5 minutes after the specified time. No

exceptions. Cell phone time is official. (7:25 to 7:35) (8:55 to 9:05) See Schedule on Page 2.

There will be a Barrel for ashes.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ELSE IN IT!!!

Friday at 9:30 PM–Awards will be presented on the “CorTrust” Main Stage located

on The Platz.

Each entry will be judged by a panel of judges; Prizes will be awarded for the 1st through 5th place winners in each

category. Total payout will be $500.00; Top 2 in each age group will receive trophies and/or plaques.

There will be $250.00 payout for each category:

Grill Masters (ages 7 to 11 years old) – 1st Place – $75 and Trophy, 2nd Place – $50 and Trophy, 3rd Place –

$40, 4th Place – $30, 5th Place – $25; plus, Sponsor’s Choice for creativity – $30.00

Pit Masters (ages 12 to 16 years old) – 1st Place – $75 and Trophy, 2nd Place – $50 and Trophy, 3rd Place –

$40, 4th Place – $30, 5th Place – $25; plus, Sponsor’s Choice for creativity – $30.00
