Facts about Fairtrade…• The result of the pattern of world trade is that the workers in primary industries

sometimes are treated unfairly. They receive low wages and often have poor standards of living. They cannot afford education for their children and many children are required to work to help their families earn a living.

• Fair trade means that the producer receives a guaranteed and fair price for their product regardless of the price on the world market. This means their quality of life should improve, as well as the long-term prospects for their children.

• Fair trade products sometimes cost more in supermarkets but many consumers consider this a small price to pay for the benefits they bring

• Fair trade sets minimum standards for the pay and conditions of workers. The Fair Trade Organisation promotes Global Citizenship by guaranteeing a fair, minimum price for products. In this way, they support producers in improving their living conditions. About 5 million people benefit from Fair Trade in 58 countries.

Cash!!! Bring some money in for our Fairtrade Fridays! We will be having the usual hot chocolate and biscuit for 50p and the Fairtrade team will also run the new look Fairtrade Tuck Shop!!

Conversation! Talk to someone about Fairtrade whenever you can! Spread the word!!!

Choose the most unusual Fairtrade product you can find and bring it into school. We are going to make up a Fairtrade hamper and donate it to our local food bank.  

At this time of year, many Christians decide to give something up for Lent – the 40 days before Easter. It could be cake, chocolate, coffee or TV. But at school this year, instead of giving up things, we’re going to

give back to each other. 40 Acts Together is a project that will help us to think about each other and how God would like us to treat others. Getting involved in Fairtrade

fortnight is one way to do this!

Reflection… Let’s think about the millions of people everywhere who work hard to grow all the things we love to eat and drink. Let’s take a moment to thank them for their work so that we can enjoy what they grow for us. When we choose something to eat or drink, we don’t often think about it but we are actually making lots of connections with other people, all across the world. We don’t often see or hear about the farmers who grow our food but they are a part of our everyday lives. It’s not fair that people who grow our cocoa, bananas, tea and other foods struggle to keep their farms going or pay for the basics like school and medicines for their children. Let’s reflect on the choices we can make and the connections we can make every day.

Dear God,You call us to look after each other and to be just and fair.You want us to be generous in lots of different ways.Help us to see how our neighbours near to us and far away sometimes are suffering because our world isn’t always fair and in your strength help us to make a difference.

Fill us, we pray, with your Holy Spirit,That we may be inspiredTo go further each day in using our giftsOf time and money and talentsIn ways that redress injusticeAnd renew life for all.
