Utilization ??

Operational Problems

•Could Not See Circuit Utilization

•Could Not Determine Performance

•Could Not Perform Capacity Planning

•Perpetual Fire Fighting Mode

Software Requirements

•Scalability to 100,000 + Ports

•Multi-Vendor Environment (Cisco, Lucent,Nortel, Foundry)

•Integration with Legacy Systems

Solution Must Provide…

•Central Configuration

•Distributed Polling

•Open API/SDK for Legacy Integration

•Exception Reporting & Data Reduction

Product Shortcomings

•Inadequate Data Polling & Storage

•Can’t Install & Configure Quickly

•Data Loss

•Not Scalable Enough !!!

Inadequate Polling & Storage

•Centralized Polling Consumes Bandwidth

•White Noise Not Eliminated

•No Data Compression

•Redundant Data Archived

Lengthy Installation

•Configuration Complex & Lengthy

•Customization required

•Many Products Incomplete

Data Lost

•Central Server Failure Causes Data Loss

•Data Polling Rate Not Fast Enough

•Data Summarization Eliminates Peaks

Not Scalable

•3500 Dial Access Units

•100,000 + Ports

•350 Points Of Presence

Solution Found“PI”

• Able to Provide Performance & Scalability

• Able to Integrate With Legacy Systems

• Able to Remotely Poll & Centrally Configured

• Installation In 48 HOURS for Collection & Storage of Data

When a

“value vector” slope is outside the slope filter...

A Filter is pre-defined for each tag.

“Swinging Door” Compression

VALUE

TIME

The filter is then used to define the minimum and

maximum “range” of slope deviation for the vector.

When a new value comes in a

“value vector” slope is calculated from the last stored value and compared to min &

max “range ” slopes (S1, S2 )

The previous value is dropped from the snapshot database if

the “value vector” slope is
