Patty Martinez Cash, 20, is more than just a player; she has been a table tennis legend ever since, at the age of 13, she was 15-20 down in the fifth game of the U.S. Open final. She took the next seven points to become the youngest U.S. women's champion. Patty has repeated twice and has taken three Canadian singles titles. Pat Hildebrand was born in Barbados, W.I., where she captured the Caribbean and Central American titles. She emigrated to Canada, from where marriage brought her to Philadelphia. Pat's defensive game has given her a top-10 ranking in the u.s. She is the current Eastern U.S. champion. Her hobbies include cooking and coin collecting.

Sue Hildebrandt, 17, Warren, Mich., is the Midwest champion. She recently spent a month in Japan, where she was coached by former world champion Kurimoto. Sue represented the U.S. in the English Junior Open in 1971. She enjoys skiing and water sports.

Barbara Kaminsky, 29, Lanham, Md., won the Canadian singles championship in 1959, and has been winning U.S. and Canadian titles ever since. She is an excellent doubles player with her name on 13 national trophies. Barbara is married with two children. Her other pursuits are duckpin bowling and playing the piano.

Angelita Rosal is the youngest girl to face the Chinese visitors. She is IS, and lives in San Diego, Calif. An American citizen, she is half Filipino and half sioux. She played for the U.S. in the English Junior Open in 1971. While collecting more than 200 honors she has had little time for her other interests, which include sewing, cooking and swimming. She plans to be an airline stewardess -- no doubt hoping for flights to China.

Olga Soltasz, 18, Orlando, Fla., is another top-10 player, and represented the u.S. in the last world championships in Japan. She returned to Japan shortly after for coaching by' former world champion Ogimura. Olga was on the U.S. team in China•. She plays several other ball sports, but lists her main hobby as eating. Olga was born in Budapest, Hungary, and came to the U.S. at the age of three; she is a U.S. citizen.

Connie Sweeris, 24, Grand Rapids, Mich., is half of one of the world's best husband-and-wife doubles teams. She currently holds all three U.S. titles. and has a long history of victories in North America. She represented the U.S. in world championships in Sweden and Japan, and was on the team in China. She is a dental assistant. She and her highly-ranked husband Dell have a two-year-old daughter. In the few odd mOments of spare time that table tennis leaves her, Connie makes all of her own clothes.
