2011 4-H Awards Program was held Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Bagg Bonanza Farm. The evening began with pizza, apple juice and apple cider. Jason Goltz and Colleen Svingen, Extension Agents, lead a Wind Energy activity, having teams make and test the voltage output of their wind turbines.

Friend of 4-H for the 2010-2011 4-H Year Crystal Bratlie

Pictured here with her husband, Kyle.

Crystal worked at the Extension Office from October 2008 to December 2010. In that time, Crystal and her husband, Kyle, volunteered many hours with the archery program, teaching and mentoring youth in our county. Crystal also worked direct-ly with 4-H clubs sharing her knowledge of the 4-H program and her talents at many of the 4-H activities.

15 4-H volunteer leaders were recognized for their years of service.

An informational project workshop was held on December 10, 2011, at Richland 44 School, Colfax, ND. This was held in place of March Madness. Ten “greens” were set up to help youth learn a little bit about all that is available through 4-H. The mini-sessions were: 1. Forms & Awards; Leadership &

About 135 individuals participated in Family Fun & Fitness sponsored by United Way of Richland/Wilkin and Richland County 4-H. The sessions provided were:

April 1, 2012

The Youth Archery League began January 22, 2012, and continued eve-ry Sunday evening through April 1, which was the Award’s Night. Tro-phies and medals were given out, pizza and cookies were eaten, and air rifle shooting was provided by ND Center for 4-H Youth Development.

Helping Hands 4-H Club October 23, 2011 Meeting held at Weber’s. Elections of officers was held. Goals for the coming 4-H year were dis-cussed and set. Healthy snack was orange food—Little Washington Soup, pumpkin bars, and papaya/mango juice. Mary gave a lesson on “Beautifully Painted Pumpkins.”

November 13, 2011 Meeting held at Weber’s. Healthy snack was apples with caramel and apple cider. Therese gave a les-son on Dehydrating Apples.

December 10, 2011 Meeting held after 4-H Scramble at Richland 44 School, Colfax. Healthy snack was trail mix. 4-H Scramble “presenters” were: Therese: Ambie, EYC, Aerospace, Camps, Activity Days Heidi: Livestock and Agronomy Incentive Pro-grams and Trunks Allison: Project Expo and Clothing Revue

January 15, 2012 Meeting held at Weber’s. 4-H Calendar of Events was discussed. Education was quilting basics and rotary cutter. Therese gave a demo on quilting and pressing.

March 11, 2012 Meeting held at Weber’s. Education was Nano science. Healthy snack was tangerines. Heidi gave a lesson on “Water Marbleizing.” and “Magic Sand—Hydrophobic Sand”.

Starlights 4-H Club January 21, 2012

New officers were elected. Molly Wynn demon-strated “Making Bread from Scratch”. She then gave everyone a piece of dough to practice kneading and shaping buns. They also rolled out dough for caramel and cinnamon rolls.

Believers 4-H Club December 10, 2012 Believers Club met after the 4-H Scramble at Rich-land 44 School, Colfax.

January 29, 2012 Meeting was held at the Town Hall in Cayuga, ND. Following skating, a potluck was held.

February 12, 2012 Meeting and “pie class” was held at the Wyndmere School. Cara Cody-Braun and Jennifer Manstrom taught pie making, history of pie, different styles of crust and even the science of pie. Members also got a lesson on how to give demonstrations and how to correctly measure ingredients when bak-ing. Each member then made their own pie from scratch to take home.

March 11, 2012 Meeting held at Stephen’s house. The following demonstrations were given:
