2018 – 2019 Suttons Bay YESTERDAY & TODAY T he Village of Suttons Bay lies midway up the eastern shore of the Leelanau Peninsula. This year ’round coastal village has been a haven for boaters since the early 19th century when its harbor was used as a port by schooners transporting lumber from the area to the emerging metropolises of mid-America. Schooners, steamers, and the railroad soon brought settlers and visitors to the area, and by 1880, the village had grown to be a lively place of about 250 inhabitants, comprising four stores, three docks, two hotels, a brick schoolhouse, a print shop, a sawmill, and a new Catholic church. Today, the working port has been transformed into a beautiful marina and is still a haven for boaters traversing the sparkling waters of the bay. The village has a quality all of its own, with specialty shops, galleries and antiques like none other, charming bed and breakfast inns in the historic residential neighborhood, and a host of outstanding restaurants. The convenience of the professional services found in the village helps to keep life simple for visitors and residents alike. Most of the shoreline of Suttons Bay is park land to enjoy. The Marina Park is an ideal spot for a family day at the beach. You’ll find hiking trails at Bahle Park in the wooded hills on the west side of the village, as well as the Leelanau Trail, south of the old train depot, for walking, biking and cross- country skiing. The schoolship schooner, Inland Seas, is docked on the south side of the Marina. (To lead you there,) follow the wooden walkways for a beautiful nature walk along the bay. The Leelanau Peninsula offers wineries, golf, sport fishing, Great Lakes boating, cross country skiing, casino gaming, and two national parks – all a short drive away. In our village there are no fast food franchises, nor is there a stoplight or a parking meter. In some ways little has changed. Today, when you travel up highway M-22, you will suddenly find that you are not on a state highway anymore, but on St. Joseph Street, our main street, with much of its 19th century architecture intact. We hope that you will savor the charms of this historic village by “slowing down” just a bit. 12TH ANNUAL SUMMER SOLSTICE ART/WINE WALK June 15, 2018 (5-9 PM) – www.suttonsbayarea.com LEELANAU PENINSULA WINE ON THE WATER FESTIVAL July 21, 2018 www.leelanauchamber.com TOUR DE TART July 20, 2018 – www.traversetrails.org SUTTONS BAY ART FESTIVAL August 4 & 5, 2018 – www.suttonsbayartfest.org SUTTONS BAY SIDEWALK SALE August 10 &11, 2018 – www.suttonsbayarea.com VINEYARD TO BAY 15K September 2, 2018 – www.vineyard2bay25k.com HARVEST STOMPEDE September 8 & 9, 2018 – www.lpwines.com FALL FOR SUTTONS BAY September 22, 2018 – www.suttonsbayarea.com FALL FINALE ART & WINE WALK October 19, 2018 (5-8 PM) – www.suttonsbayarea.com SUTTONS BAY SATURDAY HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE November 17, 2018 – www.suttonsbayarea.com SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY November 24, 2018 – www.suttonsbayarea.com HOLIDAY IN THE VILLAGE December 1 & 2, 2018 – www.suttonsbayarea.com YETI FEST January 26 2019 – www.suttonsbayarea.com www.suttonsbayarea.com RICK LAHMANN EVENTS ELIZABETH HAYDEN | EH GRAPHIC DESIGN

T he Village of Suttons Bay lies midway up the eastern shore of the Leelanau Peninsula. This year ’round coastal village has been a haven for boaters since the early 19th century when its harbor was used as

a port by schooners transporting lumber from the area to the emerging metropolises of mid-America.

You’ll find hiking trails at Bahle Park in the wooded hills on the west side of the village, as well as the Leelanau Trail, south of the old train depot, for walking, biking and cross-country skiing.
