Character Education - Responsibility

Senate Bill 2002E expanded the character developmentmandate in Required Instruction to be inclusive ofkindergarten through grade 12. The characterdevelopment curriculum (developed or adopted by eachdistrict school board) shall stress the qualities ofpatriotism, responsibility, citizenship, kindness, respect,honesty, self-control, tolerance, and cooperation.

From your reading, you know clearly that any of the nine_qualities can be found within the pages of The

Adventures of Alfred Kropp. The committee felt,however, that it would be best for our initial attempt at aschool-wide read to pick one of the 9 qualities as anarea of school-wide focus. We will be emphasizing the

-~ quality of responsibility.

Responsibility -:-a compound word: response - ability orthe ability to respond. - Responsible people areaccountable for their individual choices and theirindividual actions. People who exhibit responsibilitytend to do what they are supposed to do, always try todo their best, exhibit self-discipline, think before theyact, consider the consequences and acceptaccountability for their choices.
