19Open to me the gates of righteousness,

that I may enter through them

and give thanks to the LORD. 20

This is the gate of the LORD;

the righteous shall enter through it. 21

I thank you that you have answered me

Page 4: Ride on, Ride on in Majesty - WordPress.com · Reading John 12:12–19 12The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13So they

and have become my salvation. 22

The stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone. 23

This is the LORD’s doing;

it is marvelous in our eyes. 24

This is the day that the LORD has made;

let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25Save us, we pray, O LORD!

O LORD, we pray, give us success!

26Blessèd is he who comes in the name of the LORD!

We bless you from the house of the LORD. 27

The LORD is God,

and he has made his light to shine upon us.

Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,

up to the horns of the altar!

28You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;

you are my God; I will extol you. 29

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;

for his steadfast love endures forever!

Reading Zechariah 9:9–12

9Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!

behold, your king is coming to you;

righteous and having salvation is he,

humble and mounted on a donkey,

on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10

I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim

and the war horse from Jerusalem;

and the battle bow shall be cut off,

and he shall speak peace to the nations;

his rule shall be from sea to sea,

and from the River to the ends of the earth. 11

As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you,

I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. 12

Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope;

today I declare that I will restore to you double.

Reading Philippians 2:5–11

5Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,

6who, though he was in the form of

God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the form

of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8And being found in human form, he humbled himself by

becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9Therefore God has highly exalted him

and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10

so that at the name of Jesus every knee

should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is

Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12

The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he

who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14

And Jesus found a young donkey and sat

on it, just as it is written,

15“Fear not, daughter of Zion;

behold, your king is coming,

sitting on a donkey’s colt!”

16His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they

remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17

The crowd that

had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to

bear witness. 18

The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19

So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone

after him.”

Lord’s Prayer

C Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from T evil.

For Thine is the kingdom

and the power and the glory

forever and ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day

Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our

flesh and to suffer death upon the cross. Mercifully grant that we may follow the example of His great

humility and patience and be made partakers of His resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ, our

Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

Let us pray:

For the Holy Church as she embarks on the holiest week of the Church Year, that she would rejoice

greatly over her King, who saved her with His perfect life and sacrificial death, and who comes to her

humbly via His Holy Word and Sacraments, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

For our Christian lives, that we would be granted faithfulness in times of temptation, repentance and

forgiveness when we fall, love for all our brothers and sisters in Christ, reconciliation with those from

whom we are alienated, and boldness to confess the faith we have in Christ, let us pray to the Lord:

Lord, have mercy.

For all whom our Father has given authority in civil governments, that He would guide their decisions

and desires so that life is defended, justice upheld and the will of Him before whom all knees will bow is

done, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

For those who live without faith in Christ, that the Holy Spirit would call them to repentance and give

them the gift of faith to believe in the One who comes in the name of the Lord, let us pray to the Lord:

Lord, have mercy.

For those stricken by disease; for those enduring famine and natural disasters; for those in bondage; and

for those who are sick, shut-in, recovering or have any need, including Barb, Bernice, Lloyd, Lynette,

Donna, Joan, Darlene, Betty, Patty, Deborah, Matt, Mona, Linda, Wayne, Harriet, & Adelle, that our

heavenly Father would hear their pleas, meet their needs, relieve their suffering and lead them to rejoice

in Him who never fails us in our time of need, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

For the dying, including Blaine, that they may be comforted by the Lord who has already conquered

death for them and has turned the grave into their entrance into heavenly bliss, let us pray to the Lord:

Lord have mercy.

For those who have departed this vale of tears in faith and now sleep in Jesus, let us give thanks to the

Lord; that He would shepherd us in that same faith until our last hour, bringing us, with them, into His

Kingdom, which has no end, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

Collect for Grace

L O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, You have safely brought us to the

beginning of this day. Defend us in the same with Your mighty power and grant that this day we

fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger, but that all our doings, being ordered by Your

governance, may be righteous in Your sight; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives

and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
