On Sunday 29th March 2015, we held our Easter Ridges Meet & Greet event - Easter Egg Hunt & Morning Cuppa. Children started gathering at the gates early, all eager to get in and start searching the Rec Club grounds for eggs.

This year we distributed plastic eggs around the ground for the children to find. Once a minimum of 5 eggs were found, they headed up to Egg Distribution Headquarters (Community Room) and traded in their eggs for a bag of goodies which included various chocolates, chicken toys, lollipops, and balloons.

Once 8am clicked around and the doors opened, mayhem quickly ensued and eggs were quickly snapped up. Before long kids were lining up to get their Easter goodies bag.

Meanwhile the adults enjoys a complementary tea, coffee or hot chocolate in the Pool Café whilst enjoying a delightful breakfast/snack.

Big Day Out Care & Education continues to develop at a cracking pace on the corner of Ridgeview Drive and Kauri Crescent. Builder Ross Sinclair and his team have worked hard to bring the centre plans to life. It is looking great and we can’t wait to invite children and families along to play.

It is anticipated that Big Day Out will open for families in September. Enrolments are being taken now so call now if you require care for your little one. The earlier you call, the more likely you will be able to secure the specific days you need.

Big Day Out Care & Education will care for children from 6 weeks to school age, including before and after school care. Meals will be provided and be freshly prepared on site. Big Day Out will offer unique features.

Inspiring programs offered at Big Day Out will make each day an enjoyable learning adventure.

Contact Pam Maclean (centre operator) on 0412 525 426 for more information about this exciting new early childhood service.

RIDGES WRAP WINTER 2015

Ridges Neighbourhood Watch Update – Coolum 9, Peregian Springs: In the next week or two Ridges Neighbourhood Watch will meet with a Police representative (Senior Constable Marlene Fisher of Coolum Police) to map out a series of activities to be undertaken during the remainder of the year. These activities may include, but not be limited to the following:

a) Bicycle Identification Cards (School, Event Day, Electronic) b) Walk to School (start of new term or New Year) c) Turning the Screws (number plate security screws), a combined activity

conducted by Police, VIPs and NHW. d) Domestic Violence Coffee Cups e) DOB in a HOON – Microfiber Cloth f) Dementia Bracelets (Aged Care facilities and relevant residents)

The first of these Bicycle Identification Card will be attached to this newsletter. Police stations throughout the State have a store of stolen bicycles however they are hampered in their ability to return them to their rightful owners because there is no way of identifying them. Please complete the attached Identification Card and store it safely in case any of your families' bicycles are stolen. This simple action will realty enhance the chances of its return. A reminder of your local Neighbourhood Watch Committee:

Area Coordinator Peter Widt Zone Coordinator John Lobb (The Ridge Estate) Zone Coordinator Jodie Curran (East Village Ridges Estate) Zone Coordinator David Figgins (Pavilions Estate) Treasurer David Villani Secretary Lija Primmer Committee Member Linda Cook (East Village Ridges)

I am particularly keen to hear from any owner/residents in South East Village or North East Village Estates who would be willing to represent their area on NHW. Also keen to hear for anyone in the Ridges Estate who would like to assist NHW as a Committee Member. Please contact Area Coordinator Peter Widt on 5448 3835. RIDGES WRAP WINTER 2015

Kids Zone Elisa’s Frozen Heart c/- www.learnplayimaginecom

To make your own foaming hearts you will need: baking soda; vinegar; water; dishwashing liquid; silicone moulds; liquid watercolours or food colouring (please note, food colouring may temporary stain hands); glitter.

For each heart (or whatever silicone mould shape you have), mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of liquid watercolours, glitter and 1 teaspoon of water until the colour was evenly distributed (if you are using food colouring, use a few drops and 2 teaspoons of water). Then pack the mixture into the mould and repeat this process for each shape. Once the mould was filled, place it in the freezer overnight.

The next day grab a shallow tray and fill the bottom with a few inches of vinegar (you can always add more if you notice the foaming reaction slowing down) and then added a few squirts of dish soap (roughly 2 teaspoons) and very gently swish them a few times to mix the two. Then take the hearts out of the freezer, pop them out of their moulds and added them to the vinegar.

For the BEST foaming reaction, be sure that the vinegar level is lower than the top of your stars. If you notice that the stars are shooting less coloured foam (or stop altogether) as time goes on, gently add some more vinegar to your container. As long as there is enough fresh vinegar, the hearts will create a HUGE mountain of foam for playing!
