Rigorous Estimation of the Coordinates of two new National permanent GNSS networks in Africa:

NIGNET (Nigeria) and REPANGOL (Angola)

FIG 2011, Marrakech, 19 MAY 2011 2

Reasons to promote NIGNET and REPANGOL

- Adoption of a modern geodeticinfrastructure full compatible with theactual techniques of geo-referencing.

- Low quality of the existing network basedin observations carried out using oldtechniques.

- Lack of geodetic beacons with knowncoordinates in large areas of the country(destroyed or never implemented).

- Compatibility with the reference frames ofneighboring countries through thecollaboration with international projects, namely AFREF and IGS.

Installed Systems

a) GNSS System –Nigeria: Trimble NetR8 and NetR9.Angola: Topcon NetG3A

b) Router –communications based on mobile networks (GPRSand 3G). Software developed by SEGAL using VPNs(Virtual Private Network).

c) Power Management –Solar panels are used to supply all the necessarypower. In Angola, the streaming of RTK corrections ispossible when there is power from the electrical grid(or using an additional battery).
