Zac Rinaldo has walked a fine line.

On one side of that line is the Rinaldo whohits everything that moves, remainsdisciplined, and draws penalties against theopposition.

Sunday night at the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers got both sides of that line in their 5-2 winover the Buffalo Sabres.

“That always happens with me,” Rinaldo said after thegame. “I get on a good streak and then always something bad always happens but I deal with itand try not to think about it too much.”

That "something bad" would be his hit to the head ofBuffalo’s Chad Ruhwedel, who suffered a concussion on

the play (see video) (http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-philadelphia-flyers/watch-rinaldo-dangerously-hits-ruhwedel) . The hit will result in a hearing with the NHL'sDepartment of Player Safety Monday. Rinaldo could face suspension.

“I shouldn’t have done it,” Rinaldo said. “There was no need for it, we were up 4-0, there wasno need for that but it is what it is, it’s part of the game.”

After a strong game against Boston, and with SteveDownie out for the eighth straight game with an upperbody injury, Flyers coach Craig Berube moved Rinaldo up to the third line with Sean Couturierand Matt Read.

After the game Berube said the hit “will be reviewed like everything else,” but he thoughtRinaldo had a strong game, although he has “got to be smarter.”

“He played well,” Berube said. “I thought he played well in Boston, too.

“He did a lot of good things out there, moving his feet,scored a goal. He takes the body, hits, he disrupts

people. He’s a physical player with the skating.”

Rinaldo brought energy to the third line and it was the only line that generated much ofanything offensively early on. The line drew a couple penalties, and Matt Read put the Flyerson the scoreboard following a Mark Streit blast that rung off the post.

When Rinaldo displays his usual energy, the team typically feeds off of it.

“Well, I feed off of everyone else,” Rinaldo said. “I feed really good off of [Wayne Simmonds]and off of [Scott] Hartnell, so when they’re on their game it makes me want to play even better.

“When they’re on their game I get on my game and then maybe I feed other guys energy, too.”

Despite playing only 8:15, Rinaldo dished out five hits,notched his second goal of the year and finished with a plus-2 rating. Not bad for someone whoalso picked up 16 penalty minutes -- three minor penalties and a match penalty.

The match penalty and resulting hearing may have overshadowed the magnitude of the win.After four straight losses (two in a shootout), the Flyers got a much-needed two points (seegame story) (http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-philadelphia-flyers/flyers-regain-confidence-win-over-sabres) .

“It was a big win, especially scoring all those goals, it was a confidence booster for a lot of guys-- even myself, even though I took those penalties,” Rinaldo said. “But I built a lot ofconfidence and so did everyone else, which was good.”

Asked what to expect from his hearing tomorrow,Rinaldo said he wasn’t too sure.

“I don’t know," he said. "I haven’t talked to [Brendan] Shanahan or anyone like that for maybea year and a half now, so I don’t know what to expect.

“It could go either way.”

I know this won't be popular and I really don't care but......Rinald o is nothing more than anotherPatrick Kaleta........a nd I believe he is out of the league already.

I hope Rino doesn't wind up as bad as Kaleta. At the moment Kaleta has a MUCH dirtierresume then Zac. Not a bad comparison tho.

If my memory serves me right, I believe you are correct.

He may be Patrick Kaleta but he's our Patrick Kaleta. Rinaldo hasn't had a suspensionsince 2012 so he won't be judged as a repeat offender. Rinaldo may have no size andoffensive upside but with his speed and playing style he is a concern for the opposition.Kaleta's on injury reserve and still has a locker in the sabre's room.

Are you sure Kaleta is still with the big club ? I thought I remember him beingwaived.

According to capgeek.com......Kaleta is not on Injured reserve or LTIR. He is listedas a "buried" player.......wh atever the heck that means.......anyway, he isscheduled to make 1.25 million next season, before he becomes a UFA in thesummer of 2015.........Za ch makes about half of that so I guess he's abargain.......L OL

Awful assessment. Kaleta contributed nothing to the game. Dirty hit after dirty hit. Rinaldo isconsistently in the top 10 hits of the week for CLEAN GOOD body checks and draws a tonof penalties. Unfortunately it's going to happen. To even compare Kaleta to Rinaldo is downright pathetic. Kaleta was useless. Go troll some where else.

Regular season.....306 games played.....27 G, 24 A, 51pts.

PLAYOFFS......1 2 games played........2 G, 3 A, 5pts.

I'll bet you right now that rinaldo doesn't sniff those numbers......an d I think Kaletais a total stiff.

In fact......I'll bet you Rinaldo doesn't score 50 goals in his entire career.

Difference between Kaleta and Rinaldo is front and back. Kaleta got his reputationfrom taking cheap shots from behind and then turtling. Doesn't sound much likeRinaldo to me.

All he needs to do is change his name to James Neal before the hearing and he'll get nothing morethan a fine.

If Rinaldo gets a lengthy suspension he should thank the Flyers franchise. I have watched yr. afteryr. as Flyers players are suspended for hits that get no recognition if they played for another team,The Flyers failing is that they have no desire to stand by their players.

Rinaldo is like a windup toy that is designed to hit anyone close to the puck. I don't think the hit wasmalicious per say head hunting. It was ill timed (a little late) and the target was in vulnerable position(Ruhwedel had his head down and was stretched out after dumping the puck at the net). But Rinaldowas just trying to finish his check. The suspension should be of the 3-5 game variety. You have toremember we're talking the Comcast Hockey League here. And who owns a piece of the Flyers? Butthen again it could be a future statement to the lawyers and they may Raffi Torres him (30 games).

That was a brutal error by Rinaldo and I feel pretty bad for him. I don't think the intent was therehead-shot wise, but that one was right out of the text book. I won't be surprised if he gets a big one.

Kronwall is the most reckless player in the league. Always leading blindly with his backleaving his feet but never gets penalties or suspensions because he's always done it. Itslike crosby...We all know if he had balls at all and hit some one he'd never be suspended,NHL has too much to lose. It happened, it sucks however Rinaldo and Berube both said itwas bad and he deserves the suspensions. At least they took responsibility.

It's always the league against the Flyers ... and don't you forget it. EveryRef, linesman and commissioner in the history of the league has had itin for them.

Right on, William. When Rinaldo is at his best, he is a pest and energizer - thekind of guy we hate when he plays for the other team. Prior to that stupid, ill-timed and unneccesary hit, he was doing his role much better of late. And evenIF that hit used to be solid, when you target the head on a defenseless player,lead with elbow, follow-through and leave feet, that is the exact hit that the leagueis looking to get out of the game. Rinaldo himself acknowledged it was abad/dumb move, but Cro-Magnons still seem to think that's an appropriate play.

Old Pops Eddy must have loved that Broad Street Bully hit. Don't worry Zac, you won't be missedeven a little.

Your keen mind is only surpassed by a one cell organism. Funny how effort is decried andindifference lauded. The best team wins not necessarily the best player. Rinaldo belongs onthe ice more than most of his teammates, where is effort from Hartnell, just resign yourselfto being the idiot you are and leave sports be. Soccer is and always will be a female sport,stick to that.

Hartnell's issue certainly isn't lack of heart, it's actually the opposite. It'splaying with heart and not HEAD some times. He tries to makesomething happen and it can lead to stupid and ill-timed penalties.Agree with you 100% that the playoffs may be a different story, whereour "balanced scoring" can become a challenge, especially if the firstline doesn't wake back up.

Wow, between you and Ed, I hope you don't drown in the large amounts oforange and black kool aid you consume. Rinaldo is a positive force and should beon the ice. With his great skill set, he is sure to lead the Flyers to the promiseland!
