Week 6 Term 4

Dear Parents and Carers,

In upcoming weeks, we will again have our Annual School Walkathon and Year 6 Activities Day and we will be asking

students to seek sponsorship for their participation in walking the school oval. This is the school’s main fundraiser for

the year and funds will be going towards:

Year 6 Farewell - subsidising the Year 6 Farewell (all students at Ringrose will have that opportunity when

they get to Year 6 in future years)

Year 6 Gift to the School

K-6 School Resources

Purchase of new furniture and equipment that will support 21st Century Learning in classrooms.

Of particular note are funds being allocated to furniture and equipment to support 21st Century Learning in

classrooms.

Did you know that our current HSC students are utilising technology like iPads, iPhone, iWatches and other media and

apps that weren’t even invented when they commenced school!

Over the last two Wednesdays, I have travelled with many Principals to see how other schools are approaching this

brave new world of teaching including the Department of Education’s Technology Park in their Redfern Office. In

particular, we examined the notion of futures focussed learning where we are accommodating ‘21st Century Learning

Places and Spaces’ in schools.

In our current ‘School Vision’, we are committed to meeting this ever changing world and preparing students to be

collaborative, creative and critical thinkers of the future.

Try typing in ‘21st Century Learning Classrooms’ into google and see what different mindsets are looking like. It’s very

different from the traditional classroom where students sit in rows of tables and our own experiences of schooling!

Whilst we are in the early days of what future classrooms can look like here at Ringrose, we are very excited of the

possibilities that lay ahead for future furniture, room layouts and up-to-date technology media.

And yes, the most important driver will continue to be strong and current pedagogy (The science and art of teaching)

approaches to enhanced Quality Teaching practices. But, the change in mindset of relevant ‘Learning Places and

Spaces’ will form a crucial part of our school’s journey into the future.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Loughhead

School News / Upcoming Events

Be Safe - Use our Crossing Safely!

Year 5 Leadership Speeches

Congratulations to all the Year 5 students who presented eloquent speeches to all of Stage 3 (Years 5&6) last Tuesday. We had

21 candidates who participated in this part of the process - the most we’ve ever had. We were extremely proud of their efforts!

Yesterday, we heard from the final 6 girls and final 6 boys in a special Years 2-6 leadership Assembly. Year’s 2-5 students then

had the chance to vote for their preferred candidate. The new Leadership team in 2016 will be announced on Presentation Day.

School Lockdown Drill

Each year in accordance with Work Health and Safety legislation, the school has a number of evacuation and lockdown drills.

This allows all students and school staff to practice our emergency procedures. This Friday, we will be having our Lockdown Drill.

Remembrance Day Service

This morning we held our Remembrance Day Service in the school hall. Thank you to Miss Meese for the solemn approach to this

special day. Our School Captains and Vice Captains did a magnificent job in their attendance and participation at the Merrylands

RSL Remembrance Day Service also.

ESL (English as a Second Language) Cultural Day

Yesterday, Mrs Rajapakse and Miss Sayers organised a cultural day of interesting activities for those students who receive extra

assistance with learning English at school. It was a great day and I know that these students had many wonderful experiences

during the day. Thank you to Mrs Rajapakse and Miss Sayers for your organisation.

Russ the Story Buss- Author Visit

This Friday, Russ the Story Buss will be visiting our school as part of the Sydney Writer’s Festival for Children. This will include 30

of our Stage 1 students having an opportunity to meet with the children’s author Oliver Phommavanh.

Kindergarten Excursion

Our congratulations to all Kindergarten boys and girls on their wonderful

behaviour at Manly Sea World last Thursday. Thank you also to the

teachers and SLSO’s (School Learning Support Officers) who ensured that

they had a great day complimenting recent sea life studies!

KickStart - Kindergarten 2016

Last week, we had our first of four sessions for the new 2016 Kindergarten

students. This week, parents and carers will have the opportunity to see

what our approaches to Literacy look like in the classroom. The children

will also have the chance to work in the ‘big’ classrooms with teachers.

Next week the focus will be on Numeracy approaches. Thank you to Mrs

Stroud and the Kindergarten team for their coordination.

Recently, I have had a number of phone calls made to the school from our

community who are concerned with students not using our pedestrian crossing

out the front of the school to cross over Ringrose Avenue. I have advised boys and

girls that they must use this crossing in the mornings and afternoons in getting to

and leaving school. Our crossing supervisor 'Joy' does an outstanding job ensuring

that all pedestrians can cross safely at the marked crossing.

Can you please make sure that you emphasise this message to your children that

they use our crossing and do so safely.

Office Foyer Display - Week 6, Term 4

2/3S have enjoyed learning about different

animals and insects this year. We wrote

information reports and completed artworks

of the animals and insects.

The following students participated in making a speech about

why they should be school captain at Ringrose Public School in

2016. All the Year 5’s voted for one girl and one boy that they

thought would be a great role model! Congratulations to all

participants and good luck!

Gardening Club

Ringrose Gardening Club and 5C have been busy looking after our wonderful vegetable gardens. We were

excited to see so many vegies starting to grow. We have spinach, golden squash, beetroot, zucchini,

strawberries, celery , capsicum and chives.

Please be reminded that the vegetables are not for parents to pick, but for the children who have been

working hard to grow them.

The gardens in the Quiet Area are really looking great. Outside the Kindergarten classrooms the

Agapanthus are looking fantastic and in full bloom.

On the 10th of November, all EALD students of Ringrose Public School came to mark the importance of cultural diversity. Students participated and enjoyed a wide range of cultural activities including games around the world, art and stories. All students enjoyed learning about other cultures and sharing some information about their own culture. Thank you to all those who participated in such a wonderful day!"
