RISE! Male Empowerment Conference Newport News Public Schools will present the RISE! Male Empowerment Conference, “The Power of HIStory,” on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Heritage High School from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The purpose of the conference is to provide information and resources that will equip male students for emotional, social, academic, and future success. NNPS students in grades 8 through 11 will be eligible to participate in this experience. Graduating seniors will assist with planning, logistics, and facilitation of programming before and during the conference. The one-day conference will include dynamic presentations, a panel discussion, breakout sessions, and more for students, as well as informative workshops for parents. Students will experience interactive workshops on topics such as positive self-identity, the influence of pop culture and media on male development, overcoming adversity, academic achievement, building and maintaining positive relationships, the power of visioning/goal setting, and much more! Parents and caregivers will learn strategies to help them promote student success and to assist with college and career planning. There is no cost to participate in the conference and transportation and lunch will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required. To register for the conference, click here.
