Risedale Sports and Community College is a Specialist Sports College, working in partnership with Northallerton College. Our resources are first rate and our staff are highly dedicated. In choosing Risedale, students are committing themselves to high personal standards of work and behaviour.

Both students and the wider community have access to a range of sports facilities including a gym and sports hall, playing fields, indoor and outdoor basketball, netball and tennis courts, and a Drama studio. We have excellent ICT facilities, up-to-date Science labs, a new Food Technology room and interactive teaching facilities in every classroom.

Moving into Key Stages 3 and 4 marks the beginning of a new and defining period in a young person’s education. We will help students to put in place the building blocks that will enable them to fulfil their plans for life after College.

If you have any unanswered questions, please do not hesitate to contact the College for further information.

John Dennis, our Chair of Governors, joins me in wishing students every success at Risedale Sports and Community College.

Working relationships and caring principles

Promoting responsibility and good citizenship

Learning for lifeStudent progress is reviewed regularly. Students, subject tutors and form tutors work together to set personal learning targets. Students receive a Student Planner at the start of the year, which is monitored by form tutors, in partnership with parents.

Regular consultation meetings are held between subject/form tutors, students and parents, and there are frequent progress reports and detailed written reports of students’ work in various subjects.

Students and their parents can request detailed information about progress at any time.

Risedale Sports and Community College is committed to ensuring that everyone in the community benefits from learning that is relevant to the 21st century.

We will work together to raise standards and strive for excellence through an innovative approach to learning and by ensuring equal access and full opportunity for individual development and growth.

All students will:l experience a lively curriculum, enhanced by the power of technology l be challenged and extended, both socially and academicallyl increasingly accept and enjoy responsibility for their own lives and learningl be encouraged to celebrate diversity and respect their own, and other

people’s achievements and values

The curriculum has been designed so that students satisfy the requirements of the National Curriculum, as well as working in areas that suit their strengths and interests. In Year 10 all students undertake a one-week work-experience placement.

We recognise that studying for GCSEs can be demanding and so we run a highly effective and successful mentoring programme for students in need of a little extra support.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

Progress, recording and assessment

Individual careers education and guidance from independent careers advisers is offered to all students in Years 10 and 11. We work closely with the Connexions service, further and higher education establishments, and local employers.

Achieve economic well-being

We have been re-designated as a Healthy School. Healthy food choices and pure drinking water are available to all students, who are encouraged to eat a healthy diet.

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of life at Risedale Sports and Community College. Student participation is high in a wide range of events, including sports, Drama, Music, Dance and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Risedale Sports and Community College aims to be a centre of sporting excellence and the hub school for the schools sports partnership. This provides cluster primary schools and secondary partner schools with opportunities for shared, collaborative development of curricular and extended-curricular activities.

Homework is set regularly in all subjects, with the type and amount tailored to meet individual needs. Students record homework in their Planner.

The College library, with its excellent linked ICT facilities and study areas, is available to students at lunchtimes and is open until 4.15pm every day.
