Autumn 1917 and Constance Markievicz is on trial for the death of a young, unarmedpoliceman during the 1916 Rising, that brings several historic characters to court. Examining her complex relationship with Ireland and her role in the rebellion; and drawing from real speeches, the audience are left to decide on the verdict - guilty or innocent?

TUESDAY 12th APRIL | 8pm | €15

Dublin, 24 April 1916. Ireland’s leading actors abandon a matinee of Cathleen Ni Houlihan, take their revolvers from beneath the Abbey stage and march to Dublin Castle. Derived from real-life testimonies, Rebel Rebel chronicles the finite moments when the playspilled revolution from the stage onto the streets. Helena Molony and Sean Connolly rehearsed, carried out and suffered the consequences of the rebellion, leading tohis fatal shooting and dying in her arms on the roof of City Hall.

Easter week 1916. Thaddeus Maloney has a dream to open a new hotel on Sackville St (now O’Connell Street). A captivating story of how one man’s dream collided with thebirth of our nation. This bi-lingual performance brings alive that historic week in a show created specifically for young audiences, full of live music, physical theatre and puppetry.

FOLKLORE ARCHIVES: Nollaig MolloyRoscommon based visual artist Nollaig Molloy has been commissioned, under The Roscommon Ireland 2016 Programme, to produce a new body of work that explores the impact of the 1916 Rising on the next generation of young people in the County, using the National Schools Folklore Collection as a point of departure.
