Change in our industry is a constant. One of the changes in the past few years has been the increase in production costs; therefore, any loss to your crop can greatly affect your bottom line. With that in mind, the 2014 Citrus Crop Insurance policy has been revised in order to better meet the risks a citrus grower faces.
Among other things, the policy now offers:
Increased coverage for oranges and fresh grapefruit Average increase of 18%
Increased coverage for trees Average increase of 6%
Better terminology Varietal descriptions by Roman numerals have been replaced by a description of the fruit commodity such as: oranges, grapefruit, tangelos, etc.
Changes to fresh fruit loss calculation Fresh fruit processed due to a loss has assigned loss factors
It’s important to understand the details of these changes, and how they impact your risk management plan. With the renewal date of April 15th just around the corner, now is the time to start planning. Taking the time to make the right choices can make the difference between survival and disaster.
Contact your crop insurance agent to learn more about the details of these changes.

Controlling citrus canker has never been easy, but now with 3 years of university data, there is a new way growers can manage canker. Natural Industries announces the addition of citrus canker to the label of Actinovate AG. Known for its anti-fungal benets against such diseases as Phytophthora, Alternaria, Scab and Greasy Spot, Actinovate AG has demonstrated consistent and signicant activity against citrus canker in several Florida trials. When combined with a low rate of copper, Actinovate outperformed the high rate of copper alone.
