I am happy to introduce the Winter 2013 and Spring 2014 Events & Activities Guide.

Riverview is as vibrant as ever as we conclude the celebrations of our 40th Anniversary in 2013! As the year winds down, I am grateful for the active involvement of

residents and the community organizations that make our Town great. People of Riverview enjoy celebrating our community and culture, and there is no shortage of special events and community festivals offered through our Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Relations. There is definitely something for each member of your family to find and enjoy.

The Town of Riverview takes great pride in our services and our staff help make your visit even more enjoyable. If you would like suggestions for programs and activities or need help figuring out which class is best-suited for you, give staff a call – they’re always available to help and are committed to making the registration process easy for you.

Whether you like to spend your activity time indoors or out, there is lots of opportunity for you to take part in our community.

Riverview is your town to enjoy and explore with family and friends! On behalf of Riverview Town Council and staff, I look forward to seeing you at one of our many events this winter and spring!

Sincerely,

Ann Seamans,Mayor of Riverview

Wonderful! Not only does this describe the time of year, but also your choice to pick up a copy of the 2014 Winter/Spring Town of Riverview Events and Activity Guide! We are blessed to be living in such an active community with a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Winter is a wonderful time in

Riverview to be outdoors, with fresh air, enjoying our cross country ski and walking trails, outdoor skating, and special events including Winter Carnival as well as the many indoor programs such as minor hockey, figure skating, and ringette. This guide provides a wide range of activities for all interests, ages and abilities. From preschool programming to swimming, skating, fitness, sliding and tobogganing, or a simple game of shinny; there is something for everyone.

One of the things that drew me to Riverview was the abundance of year round recreational opportunities. I jog throughout Riverview year round, and can often be found walking with our dog through Mill Creek and Riverfront Parks. I also bicycle most of the year, kayak and canoe when I can, and hike areas around the tri community area such as the Dobson Trail. Mid- winter night-time snowshoeing by moonlight, with friends and family, is a personal favourite. I can hardly wait for the first snows to cross country ski at Mill Creek Park and the two nearby National parks. I encourage you to get outdoors and explore what Riverview has to offer you and your family.

The Parks, Recreation and Community Relations Department consists of a dynamic team of individuals that oversees direct delivery of activities and programs, facility operations and park management, and community development. We are always interested in hearing from you with your suggestions for new or improved services. As we continue to grow in response to a growing and ever increasingly active community, your participation is important.

I wish you success in continuing a healthy and active lifestyle.

Gerry Cole,Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Relations
