Riviera English School was established in 1996. The owners of theschool, James and Alex Nicholls, have over 40 years’ experiencebetween them, having taught in many different countries. Theyhave taken the very best aspects of all the schools they haveworked in and combined them to create an informal butprofessional atmosphere.

Most of our students come to us through personal recommendationfrom others who have studied here. Many students come back toattend our courses year after year. Riviera English School is amedium-sized school with a good mix of nationalities - we havetaught students from over 40 different countries. There is a pleasant, friendly atmosphere and visitors will always get a warm welcome.

We are open all year, except for public holidays, Christmas andNew Year. Our winter courses are ideal for more serious studentsas the class sizes are smaller.

We now have a wonderful new school building, with 16classrooms, a lovely courtyard garden, a student suite with library, pool room, table football, social area with drinks and food vendingmachines, a large 3D TV and computers for students to use. Theschool also offers free WiFi connection.

The school is located in Torquay’s best business address, withfantastic sea views. It is just a few metres from the main shoppingstreet and harbour-side area, close to restaurants, beaches and thenight life of the town.

Torquay, with a population of approximately 60,000, is in thesouth-west of England in the county of Devon. It has all thefacilities you would expect of a major holiday resort and is abeautiful area which has been the location for several films. As thepalm trees suggest, it is generally warmer than most parts of the UK.
