RIZAL THE POET Rizal was one of the country’s greatest poets He used it to convey his message regarding:
the country its heritage, and his personal sentiments
His poems can be classified into the following periods:
1. during his childhood 2. while a student at Ateneo & UST 3. when he finished his studies until his death
in 1896

Rizal’s poems reflected the influence of Rizal’s mentors: biases towards religion, the history of Spain and views about non-Catholics
His poems also included classical names of Greek & roman gods
Poetry as a Student in UST: “ A La Juventud Filipina”- told the youth to
unfold their artistic talents
RIZAL THE POET He also composed a prize winning play called
“ Consejo delos Dioses” He wrote the poem “ Junto Al Pasig” in 1889 Great Solace in Greatest Misfortune -
showed his links with Ateneo Rizal’s Latter poems: “ They Ask Me for Verses “ –written while he
was still new in Spain Poems with romantic sentiments: “ To Miss C.O. y R “ To Josephine “
