ENERGY EFFICIENCY FOR GAS TURBINE OPERATORSWithtoday’sescalatingenergycosts,themanufacturersofDualFuelGasTurbinesareconstantlylookingforwaystoimproveefficiency,andmeetevermorestringentemissionsrequirements.KeytotheseneedsistheLiquidFuelMeteringfunction,whichdirectlycontrolsthesupplyofliquidfueltotheturbineburners(e.g.comparabletodiesel).Mooghasbeenworkingonfuelmeteringtechnologytoimproveperformanceforover20years.
MooghasdevelopedanewfuelefficientfuelmeteringsystemusingtandemvariabledisplacementRKPpumpswithup-ratedcompensatorandrevisedspringconfigurationtoimprovefrequencyresponse.LiquidfuelMoogDirectDriveValves(DDVs)aremountedtothepumptoindependentlycontrolflowtothemainburnerandthepilotburnerandtoensurefuelissuppliedondemandratherthanbyspillingexcessflow(asinthetraditionalsystem).ConsequentlythenewMoogsystemtypicallyusesa22kWACmotorwhereasthetraditionalsystemoftenrequiresa30kWmotor,alreadydemonstratingreducedinservicerunningcosts(energysaving).
Thistechnologyhasalreadybeenappliedtoturbinesofpowerlevelsofupto15MWcorrespondingtofuelflowratesofupto100lpm(26.4gpm)at100bar(1450psi).Typicalfueltypesthathavebeenaccommodatedincludedieselanddieselderivatives.ThesystemisATEXcertifiedforuseinGroup2,Category3hazardousareas.
