Castigating the previousSamajwadi Party regimefor allowing law and

order to deteriorate in UttarPradesh, Chief Minister YogiAdityanath said that the toughstand taken by his govern-ment had forced criminals toseek mercy.

“The Samajwadi Party wasresponsible for the riots inMuzaffarnagar. Those were thedays of yore. Now, criminals areseeking mercy as the govern-ment has upped the anteagainst them,” Yogi said whileaddressing an election rally inGangoh on Tuesday.

Despite being inSaharanpur, Gangoh is part ofthe Kairana parliamentary con-stituency where bypolls will beheld on May 28.

The Chief Minister issueda stern warning to criminalsand anti-social elements target-ing women and traders, askingthem to mend their ways orface the music.

“We are working tirelesslyto solve the problems of thepeople. We are providing 18-hour power to farmers, a thingwhich was unthinkable just ayear ago. We are building infra-structure and promoting local

products through ‘One District,One Product’ scheme. Thiswill help in generating employ-ment,” Yogi said.

The Chief Minister furthersaid that the government wasin the process of restartingclosed industrial units andsugar mills. “If we are able to doso, it will generate jobs for localyouths. If things go as perplan, three lakh youths will begiven jobs this year,” Yogi said.

The Chief Minister alsoassured cane farmers that alltheir dues would be paid soonand that his government wouldsolve their problems and notincrease them.

“This BJP government inUP is for the people and isworking hard to fulfil aspira-tions of the masses. We havegiven uniforms to children ofgovernment schools and sim-plified several laws to benefitthe common man, particular-ly farmers,” he added.

In the Kairana bypoll,Bharatiya Janata Party candi-date Mriganka Singh is pittedagainst Rashtriya Lok Dal’sTabassum Hasan. The seat fellvacant after the death ofMriganka’s father HukumSingh.

Gandhi as the prime ministe-rial candidate of the alliance ofopposition parties for 2019Lok Sabha elections, SamajwadiParty president Akhilesh Yadavsaid that the PM would bedecided after the polls.

He, however, clarified thathe was not in the race for theprime minister’s office.

The former Chief Ministerof UP said in Lucknow onTuesday that the 2019 LokSabha polls would not be onthe face of a particular leaderbut on the issues facing thecountry.

“The sole aim of theSamajwadi Party is to winmaximum number of seats inthe 2019 polls to ensure that asecular political front forms thenext government in Delhi,” hesaid.

Replying to a question,Akhilesh said that he would bevisiting Bengaluru to attend theoath ceremony of Janata Dal(Secular)-Congress coalitiongovernment led by HDKumarswamy in Karnataka.

Asked when he wouldcomply with the SupremeCourt’s order and vacate theofficial bungalow, Akhileshsaid, “I am looking for a rent-ed house so that I can vacatethe government bungalow inLucknow’s high-security zone.”

“There is no property reg-istered in my name so I havesought two years’ time from theSupreme Court to allow me tostay at the present address. Iwill build a home if the SCgrants me the time requestedfor. If I get a proper housebefore that, I will vacate thegovernment house,” the SPpresident said.

The remark of the SP chiefcame in the wake of a SC direc-tive after which the Yogi

Adityanath government issuednotices to six former CMs,including Mulayam andAkhilesh, to vacate their gov-ernment bungalows within 15days. The apex court hadobserved that once a personvacated the office of CM, hewas at par with the commonpeople.

SP patron Mulayam SinghYadav had visited CM YogiAdityanath and requested himthat he and his son Akhilesh beallowed to stay in their presentbungalows by allotting them inthe name of senior SP leaders,who were leaders of oppositionin the Assembly and LegislativeCouncil.

In a bizarre case, two sistersbelow four years of age were

allegedly raped by two minorsin Allahganj area ofShahjahanpur on Tuesdaymorning.

Reports said that both thevictims were playing outsidetheir house in Rasoolpur villagein Allahganj area when Nitesh(14) and Aakash (8) of samevillage allegedly raped them.

The victims were sent tohospital for medical examina-tions and a case was registeredagainst the accused. Furtherinvestigations are on, policesaid.

Meanwhile in Sambhal, ayoung couple, who were dis-tantly related and in a relation-ship, allegedly committed sui-cide by consuming poisonouspills. The bodies of Chandni(20) and Kapil (21) were foundin a field on Hasanpur road in

Nakkhasa police station area inSambhal on Tuesday morning.Tablets of sulphas (aluminiumphosphide) were recoveredfrom the spot.

According to circle officerSudesh Kumar, it appeared tobe a case of suicide. The bod-ies were sent for post-mortem.

In Mathura, the Kotwalipolice rescued a 15-year-oldgirl from Assam and nabbed sixpeople who were allegedlyinvolved in human trafficking.

Superintendent of Police(City) in Mathura, ShravanKumar Singh, said the girl wasrescued from a private guesthouse in an unconscious stateon Monday evening and wassent for medical examination.

“Police are still huntingfor a man and a woman whoplayed a key role in the sexracket,” Singh said.

The SP said the girl wasfirst brought to Delhi fromAssam with the promise of a

job. Subsequently, she wastaken to Mathura by a personnamed Jeetu, who has beenevading arrest in a similarcase.

The SP said the policereceived information from localresidents about some suspi-cious activities going on in theguest house after which thecops swung into and rescuedthe girl and arrested the six per-sons.

The police identified fourof them as Aditya (fromJhunjhunu, Rajasthan), AnujKumar (Hisar, Haryana),Akhilesh Kumar (Aurangabad,Bihar) and Manoj Kumar(Mathura).

The first three live in theMES Colony in Mathura. Theother two accused are stu-dents, police said, adding all ofthem had been booked underthe Protection of Childrenfrom Sexual Offences Act(POCSO Act).

The Central Bureau ofInvestigation (CBI) is mak-

ing efforts to extract informa-tion from the two cops arrest-ed in connection with theUnnao rape case regardingwho provided them a country-made revolver which was latershown to have been recoveredfrom the possession of therape victim’s father after regis-tering two cases.

“We are trying to confirmwho provided the revolver to thethen station officer of Makhipolice station, Ashok SinghBhadauriya and sub-inspectorKamta Prasad Singh, that waslater ‘recovered’ from the posses-sion of the victim’s father,” saida CBI officials who grilled thetwo cops.

The custody remand of thetwo cops was extended for threemore days by the court.Interestingly, MLA KuldeepSingh Sengar, who is also inpolice remand, tried to plead hisinnocence, claiming that he wasin touch with the local policeand senior officers just to knowthe details of the incident anddid not use his clout to bail outhis brother Atul Singh Sengar.Atul is in Unnao jail in connec-tion with the murder. The copsare also likely to grill the thenSuperintendent of Police ofUnnao, Pushpanjali. The proberevealed that the MLA and acrony met the district policechief on the fateful night at herresidence regarding the case.
