city 02 LUCKNOW | WEDNESDAY | MAY 23, 2018 PNS n LUCKNOW C astigating the previous Samajwadi Party regime for allowing law and order to deteriorate in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the tough stand taken by his govern- ment had forced criminals to seek mercy. “The Samajwadi Party was responsible for the riots in Muzaffarnagar. Those were the days of yore. Now, criminals are seeking mercy as the govern- ment has upped the ante against them,” Yogi said while addressing an election rally in Gangoh on Tuesday. Despite being in Saharanpur, Gangoh is part of the Kairana parliamentary con- stituency where bypolls will be held on May 28. The Chief Minister issued a stern warning to criminals and anti-social elements target- ing women and traders, asking them to mend their ways or face the music. “We are working tirelessly to solve the problems of the people. We are providing 18- hour power to farmers, a thing which was unthinkable just a year ago. We are building infra- structure and promoting local products through ‘One District, One Product’ scheme. This will help in generating employ- ment,” Yogi said. The Chief Minister further said that the government was in the process of restarting closed industrial units and sugar mills. “If we are able to do so, it will generate jobs for local youths. If things go as per plan, three lakh youths will be given jobs this year,” Yogi said. The Chief Minister also assured cane farmers that all their dues would be paid soon and that his government would solve their problems and not increase them. “This BJP government in UP is for the people and is working hard to fulfil aspira- tions of the masses. We have given uniforms to children of government schools and sim- plified several laws to benefit the common man, particular- ly farmers,” he added. In the Kairana bypoll, Bharatiya Janata Party candi- date Mriganka Singh is pitted against Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Tabassum Hasan. The seat fell vacant after the death of Mriganka’s father Hukum Singh. It was probably the first time in the last one year when the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya travelled together and addressed an election rally In his address, Maurya said that the people of Kairana would ensure a big win for Mriganka Singh as her father served the region with dedica- tion. Claiming that Narendra Modi would again become the Prime Minister of the country and the BJP would win more than 73 seats in UP, Maurya said that the party would return to power with a bigger margin “The opposition, which is daydreaming to oust the BJP in the 2019 election, will fall flat as Modi will turn more power- ful after the Lok Sabha polls,” he claimed. Yogi Adityanath will again campaign in Kairana Lok Sabha constituency and address an election meeting at Vaish College on May 24. PNS n LUCKNOW R efusing to endorse Congress chief Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministe- rial candidate of the alliance of opposition parties for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the PM would be decided after the polls. He, however, clarified that he was not in the race for the prime minister’s office. The former Chief Minister of UP said in Lucknow on Tuesday that the 2019 Lok Sabha polls would not be on the face of a particular leader but on the issues facing the country. “The sole aim of the Samajwadi Party is to win maximum number of seats in the 2019 polls to ensure that a secular political front forms the next government in Delhi,” he said. Replying to a question, Akhilesh said that he would be visiting Bengaluru to attend the oath ceremony of Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress coalition government led by HD Kumarswamy in Karnataka. Asked when he would comply with the Supreme Court’s order and vacate the official bungalow, Akhilesh said, “I am looking for a rent- ed house so that I can vacate the government bungalow in Lucknow’s high-security zone.” “There is no property reg- istered in my name so I have sought two years’ time from the Supreme Court to allow me to stay at the present address. I will build a home if the SC grants me the time requested for. If I get a proper house before that, I will vacate the government house,” the SP president said. The remark of the SP chief came in the wake of a SC direc- tive after which the Yogi Adityanath government issued notices to six former CMs, including Mulayam and Akhilesh, to vacate their gov- ernment bungalows within 15 days. The apex court had observed that once a person vacated the office of CM, he was at par with the common people. SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav had visited CM Yogi Adityanath and requested him that he and his son Akhilesh be allowed to stay in their present bungalows by allotting them in the name of senior SP leaders, who were leaders of opposition in the Assembly and Legislative Council. To a question on whether Mulayam Singh Yadav was get- ting a home as gift, Akhilesh said, “You should appreciate that there are leaders who have not built home for themselves. The CBI has already scanned our balance sheets. I am also looking for a rented flat for Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) as well.” Akhilesh presently resides at 4, Vikramaditya Marg which was renovated before the 2017 Assembly elections, while Mulayam Singh has been stay- ing in 5, Vikramaditya Marg for the last 27 years.
