The Course is open to anyone aged 16 or over on Saturday 20 February 2016. The course will run Monday 15 February – Friday 19 February 2016, between 8:00am & 6.00pm each day. The assess- ment will take place on Saturday 20 February between 5.30pm and 9.30pm (Approximately). 100% attendance is re- quired for the course and the assessment day. The cost of the course will be £200. Applications to take part should be made no later than Monday 25 January 2016. Your place on the course will only be confirmed once the full amount has been paid. You will be required to attend a pre-course swim test on Sunday 30 th January 2016 at 8pm to ensure that your swim- ming is at the required standard as there will not be anytime on the course to “Teach people to swim”. The water test will consist of: Jump or dive in to the water Swim 100 meters Continuously on front and then 100 meters on back (must be of a good standard) Swim 50 meters in no more than 60 seconds Tread water for 30 seconds Surface dive to the pool floor (12’6” approximately 3.81meters) Climb out unaided and without ladder This is the basic requirement for the course, and you will find that the course requires a higher level of fitness than is needed to complete the swim test. You will be in the pool for about 3 hours a day, doing various rescue techniques and also timed swims, therefore it is recommended that you swim regularly before the course to build up your stamina. Please also note that you should have a good level of hearing and good eyesight. You will need to bring a pen and note pad for theory sessions. You will also need to bring a T-Shirt, shorts, and swim- ming costume for the pool sessions. Please be aware that attendance on this course does NOT guarantee passing, and Splashpoint and its staff will not be held responsible for anyone failing to meet the required standard by the assessor. There will be no refunds for anyone not passing the assessment. Re-assessments can be arranged through the trainer at a cost of £80 per assessment (non-refundable) and must be taken within 28 days of the original assessment. Please also note that passing the course does not guarantee work at the Splashpoint Leisure Centre. If you will be seeking work then you will have to follow the normal application and interview process. Please ask for more details. If you would like a place on the course please return the application form no later than 11am, Monday 25 January 2016. ADDITIONAL COURSE INFORMATION

Course Overview:

The internationally recognised Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS UK) National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) is not only a qualification

that will train you to become a Pool Lifeguard but can also be a stepping stone into a career within the leisure industry. The NPLQ requires a

minimum of 37.5 hours (5 days) training and requires 100% attendance. In order to perform lifeguard duties candidates must be physically

fit, have good vision and hearing, be mentally alert and self disciplined*. The course will be delivered using a variety of methods including:

PowerPoint Presentations

Flip Chart Exercises

Guided Group Discussions

Guided Group Activities

Practical Demonstrations and Training The NPLQ and AED certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of successful completion of the course. Topics Covered:

The NPLQ+AED covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguard Theory, First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator

(AED). The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the

pool. Approved prior learning can be applied upon proof of certification, please ask your trainer for further details.

Some of the days may include water work on more than one occasion and candidates may prefer to bring two sets of towels, shorts and t-shirts. Course Assessment: The course syllabus and practical skills are continually assessed by the course trainer and a suitable level competence must be achieved to be put forward for a final independent assessment. The assessment will include verbal question and answer sessions, practical demonstra-tions of water rescue skills, CPR and First Aid.
