I am driven by my passion to creatively communicate and express ideas through

photography, design and film. I am an innovative learner of those around me but a critical out-

doer of oneself. I believe in respect for others but fully appreciate my own uniqueness. Driven

by my natural desire for what looks & feels good I spearheaded in my current employment, the

formation of the Higherlife Foundation Marketing department in Zimbabwe. I also do not miss out

on the chance to empower others with my skills as I have been part of a Big Brother Mentorship Program.

Goals: With a (graphic) design background I have undertaken courses in innovation and creative thinking

as I would like to be an entrepreneurial Art/Film director in Africa in the next five years. Within the decade I would like to establish a preferred film and production institute

which specializes in broadcasting up and coming African entrepreneurs and innovators. And as a writer, it is my

desire to ensure their stories are expertly & innovatively told.

Profile

I have always been intrigued by the disatisfaction of a client when they come across their work in procedure. The frameworks, guidelines and building blocks never make sense or match their wildest imaginations. It’s always a mental battle to translate Alice’s Wonderland into Lego blocks, all this being done without the actual and graphical input of the client. Before establishing and recognizing my work technique, their comments always stirred the wrong emotion within me. However, I gradually took pride in my technique but above all the results of abiding by it. Sometimes even after the work is done the client will not see the logic behind the tone and voice of the composition and typography. Sometimes its hard to follow the brief to the dot despite knowing what’s best for your client, whilst it also seems like self-betrayal to briskly complete the job with only money as the only consideration. This portfolio however not only shows my best works but works that have drawn varying emotions and work techniques. I have learnt to appreciate a clients input or put-downs, to churn all kinds of emotion and kick start the creative juices. But I have also learnt that there is always room for improvement as long as you are serving with all passion. Hope this portfolio exemplifies my efforts to bring Alice into Lego Land.

Milestones

As part of the Communications & Strategic Partnerships team, one of our main duties is to communicate the how’s and why’s of what we do. The Higherlife Foundation Newsletter is in its 19th Edition, of which I have been the Creative Director. We have weekly meeting to discuss the content and those responsible for it, however layout design has been my perogative which obviously also has an influence on the final layout. It is a weekly interactive newsletter which has had a wide audience due our Co-Chair/Founder’s network of influence.

I enjoy freelancing because once again it allows for my scope of work to expand. It is already dififcult meeting my corporate dealines, but the side offers drive my entrepreuneurial thirst. It allows me to see what is beyond the scope of the organisations brand guidelines and restrictions. This was a campaign for an ANC associate during the 2014-15 Xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa. The document gets into the details of each of the symbols.

Once your friends know you design the free jobs never seem to end. But some have their own kinds of benefit. For example me making an attempt at Food Photography. This process has been tastefully edifying as I developed the whole brand for Palates; a more personalized chef service. This included the whole enchalada; i.e. logo, color scheme, font theme, pay-off line, social media accounts and photography.

Branding

My work title basically describes a brand communicator and in my case it gets as physical as it should. I am not only responsible for conceptualizing and creating the brand of specific events within the organization. After the soft issues such as inivtes and powerpoint presentations, it is my duty to make sure the event is well branded with the appropriate outdoor paraphernalia, to ensure that the event feel is consistent throughout.

Collaborations

Collaborations are always exciting but they do bring their own complications. Branding can be strict but should always allow for evolving. Working with differet entities provides that platform for ‘evolution’ and creative collaborations. The 2014 Annual Victoria Falls Marathon afforded me the chance to delve into that arena.

Social Media

Social Media is trending and Higherlife Foundation is keeping up wth the Joneses. The organisation afforded me the opportunity to do an online course on Social Media Marketing and this improved my work henceforth. Maintaining Facebook and Twitter terms and regulations is simple enough, but abiding by the unwritten social media laws is a tricky plane. The audience is hungry and choosy and evryday is a learning curve. I actually take time to read through the comments below the images to see what social media socialites react to.
