    2 RNC2600 step upgrade

    Purpose

This procedure explains how to perform upgrade from RNC2600 step 1 to RNC2600

    step 2 or RNC2600 step 3, and upgrade from RNC2600 step 2 to RNC2600 step 3.

RNC2600 capacity configuration is shown in Figure 1 RNC2600 steps.

    Figure 1 RNC2600 steps

The RNBC cabinet is added only with step 2. When upgrading RNC2600 from step 2,

with RNBC already in use, to step 3, start from procedure step 4 Create the hardware

    configuration.

g You can make expansions without impact to the traffic. However, it is strongly recom-mended that you carry out the expansions during low traffic time.

    Before you start

Check and make sure that all the system release upgrades are done. Make a fallback copy of the software build.

For instructions, see Fallback copying software build in Performing Safecopying

    and Restoring Operations.

g After the expansion is completed, this fallback copy does not work with the new configuration. If you wish to take this fallback copy into use, fall back to the con-

    figuration before the expansion.

Check and make sure that there are no active alarms. Correct all the existing faults. It is also recommended that you monitor the

    alarms while making the expansion.

Run diagnostics on all the units and make sure that the network element is working properly.

Check and make sure that you have all the required equipment and tools. There are different grounding sets for attaching the cabinets. See Equipment

Lists for RNC2600 for more information on the grounding sets.

Check against Hardware Revision List for WCDMA IPA-RNC and make sure that all the materials have correct versions and interchangeability

    levels.

Check against MGW and IPA-RNC, Jumper Settings of the Plug-in Units and Hard Disk Drives and make sure that the jumpers of the plug-in units

    are correctly set.

Register the barcodes of the extended units. Check that the cables are correctly installed.

All the intra-subrack and intra-cabinet cables are installed at the factory. For

more information, see Cable Lists for RNC2600.

The inter-cabinet cables for TBU, which are needed when connecting the RNBC

cabinet to RNAC cabinet, are connected to the cabinet RNBC, and the other

ends of the cables are looped and attached to cable supporting shelf at the

factory. To connect the inter-cabinet cables to RNAC cabinet, see Installing the

MGW and IPA-RNC and Cable Lists for RNC2600.

w NOTICE: Electrostatic discharge and incorrect installation and uninstallation can damage circuits or shorten their lifetime.

To ensure proper functioning of the plug-in units during their lifetime, take the following

    precautions before handling them:

Before touching integrated circuits, ensure that you are working in an electrostatic-free environment.

Wear an ESD wrist strap or use other method to discharge static electricity in your body.

NP8S1-B and NP2GE-B plug-in units include CLASS 1 LASER PRODUCT.

g It is highly recommended to wait for 2 minutes between consecutive DMCUs and/or ICSUs functional unit creations (ZWFU commands). Otherwise PROFIC supervision

failure occurs and ICSU/RSMU restarts with alarm1023.

    Steps

Install the new cabinet. For instructions, see Installing the IPA-RNC.

Ground the cabinets. For instructions, see Installing the grounding cables or strips between the cabinets in

    Installing the IPA-RNC.

Table 3 Grounding set for RNC shows the grounding set. See Equipment Lists for

RNC2600 for more information on the grounding sets.

Install the power supply to the cabinet. For instructions, see Installing the site power supply cables and grounding the network

    element in Installing the IPA-RNC.

g Do not power on any subrack. At this phase, only the cabinets have power and the switches of CPD120-A units are in OFF position. PD30 and TBUF units are not installed

    in the new subracks.

Create the hardware configuration. For detailed instructions, see Creating plug-in unit description and Creating and attach-

ing functional unit description in Hardware Configuration Management in IPA-RNC.

D Create the cabinet description.E Create the subrack description.F Create the plug-in unit description for PD30 and TBUF plug-in units.

Install the PD30 and TBUF plug-in units.Install the power distribution plug-in units (PD30) and the timing and synchronization

units (TBUF) of all subracks into the correct positions. For installation instructions, see

Installing plug-in units in Installing the IPA-RNC.

    Check which TBU unit is the active unit (USI).ZUSI:TBU;

In the following steps, it is supposed that TBU 0 is the active unit.

Check the timing bus cable connection for RNAC.This step is only valid in RU30 release and afterwards.

Check if the timing bus cable connection of RNAC is in accordance with table RNAC

HMS and timing bus cables in Cable Lists for RNC2600. If yes, it is star configuration

and you do not need to do any change. If no, it is daisy chain configuration and you

need to change the timing bus cables of RNBC cabinet from star configuration to daisy

chain configuration. For details, see Table 4 Removed RNBC timing bus cables and

Table 5 Added RNBC timing bus cables.

Connect HMS bus 1 and timing bus 1 intercabinet cables between RNAC and RNBC.

The two HMS buses cannot be cut off at the same time. Also, you can only install the

HMS and timing cables when the corresponding TBU unit is in SE-NH working state.

In order to function correctly, the HMS bus and timing and synchronization distribution

bus need terminations at the ends of the buses by means of termination cables. The

location of termination points for the timing and synchronization distribution bus

depends on the bus topology. In "star" configuration, the bus termination points are in

all the subracks for both RNAC and RNBC cabinets. In "daisy chain" configuration, the

bus termination points are in subrack 4 for both RNAC and RNBC cabinets.

When advancing RNC2600 from step 1 to step 2, or from step 1 to step 3, RNBC cabinet

is taken into use. If the timing bus cables of RNAC cabinet and RNBC cabinet are in

star configuration, the intercabinet cables need to be connected according to Figure

2 HMS bus cabling principles, Figure 3 Timing bus cabling principles: star configura-

tion, Table 6 HMS bus 1 and timing bus 1 intercabinet cables: star configuration, and

    results from the alarm printer.

If the diagnostic report indicates a failure, locate and correct the failure according to

the instructions in Diagnostics and Testing. Do not continue until the faults have

    been corrected.

    H Run total diagnostics for SFU 1 (UDU)ZUDU:SFU,1;

If the diagnostic report indicates a failure, locate and correct the failure according to

the instructions in Diagnostics and Testing. Do not continue until the faults have

    been corrected.

When you have corrected the faults, change the unit working state back to TE and

    repeat the diagnosis.

Install plug-in units. For details, see Creating RNC2600 Hardware Configuration. Create plug-in units, con-

nections, and functional units such as:

    ICSU MXU DMCU NPGE(P) NPS1P

g MXU units (in pairs) must be installed before their tributary units. For instructions, see Taking new functional unit into use in Hardware Configuration Managment.

Check the system configuration.Check the system configuration to verify that the new plug-in units are in correct posi-

tions and that the subrack numbers are correct. For instructions, see Checking the

software version of the HMS node in Hardware Configuration Management.

Run RUOSTE ICSU load balancing. For instructions, see Appendix A - ICSU load balancing.

Modify DSP pool configuration. For detailed information, see step 1 to step 3 in Activating Basic HSDPA with QPSK and

5 codes and WP - Signal Processing Service Handling.

Make a fallback copy of the software build. For instructions, see Fallback copying software build in Performing Safecopying and

    Restoring Operations.

g After the expansion has been completed, the new fallback copy does not work with the previous configuration.
