ROAD MASTER ACTIVE SUSPENSION These Fitting Instructions must be read and fol lowed step by step
FOR THE FOLLOWNG VEHICLES: CHEVY & GMC 1500, 2500 & 3500 CARG O VPNS 1986 TO PRESENT PND PASSENGER VPNS 1986 T O 2006 MK2-XXVF ITEM 2611V

AFTER FITTING A ROADMASTER ACTIVE SUSPENSION (RAS) SYSTEM TO THESE VANS THEY WILL BE ABLE TO CARRY MAXIMUM LOAD W ITH OUT THE REAR SQUATTING, BE CONSIDERABLY MORE STABLE, LESS PRONE TO ROLLOVER AND SAFER. RAS kit must never be fitted while the vehicle is stlnding with the rear wheels on
the ground. In this position the rear leaf springs will be under load and the
Roadmaster coil tension spring settings cannot be achieved, resulting in the Roadmaster not working correctly. Always instill with the rear axle and leaf
springs hanging free.
CHECK THE LEAF SPRINGS FOR N-JY EXCESS WEAR, FATIGUE, CRACKED OR BROKEN LEAF SPRING BLADES OR V\ORN BUSHINgS - ESPECIALLY OLDER SPRINGS, THESE MAY HAVE T O BE REPLACED w-fERE NECESSARY.
w-fEN FI TTING T O OLDER VEHICLES, THE U/BOLTS NUTS COULD BE BADLY CORRODED, MAKING I T IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE THEM. IF THIS SHOULD BE EXPERIENCED THE U/B OLTS MUST BE REPLACED.
ANY DEVIATION FROM THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RENDER THE WARRANTY VOID. THIS KIT WILL NOT BE WARRANTED IF INSTALLED ON ANY VEHICLE WHERE THE REAR SUSPENSION HAS BEEN MODIFIED IN ANY WAY. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO ACHIEVE THE MAXIMUM SAFETY ADVANTAGE THE FOLLOWING MUST BE ADHERED TO: 1 ) THE TIRES MUST BE IN GOOD CONDITION AND THE CORRECT PRESSURE MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES. 2) THE MANUFACTURER'S GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT (GVW ) SHOULD NOT BE EXCEEDED. 3) THE DRIVER SHOULD BE COMPETENT AND EXPERIENCED IN THE HANDLING OF THIS TYPEOF VEHICLE.4) OCCUPANTS MUST WEAR SEAT BEL TS AT ALL TIMES.5)ALLOW LONGER FOLLOWING AND STOPPING DISTANCES AND AVOID SHARP MANEUVERS.

1) WHEN FITTING TO A VEHICLE USING A LIFT THAT WILL ALLOW THE REAR
AXLE TO HANG FREE WITHOUT RESTRICTION.
RAISE THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT AND REMOVE THE TWO REAR WHEELS. THE REAR
LEAF SPRINGS WILL NOW BE IN THEIR MAXIMUM BOWED POSITION. NEXT PLACE
TWO AXLE SUPPORT STANDS UNDER THE AXLE AS SHOWN, TO JUST SUPPORT THE
WEIGHT OF THE AXLE AND REAR SUSPENSION ONLY.
2) WITH THE AXLE NOW WELL SUPPORTED, REMOVE THE TWO U/BOLT NUTS AS
SHOWN IN ILLUSTRATION IN (3)
3) THE TWO NUTS ON THE OTHER U/BOLT DO NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED
COMPLETELY. LOOSEN THESE NUTS AND ALLOW ABOUT 1/8” OF THREAD TO STILL
PROTRUDE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE U/BOLTS. THIS WILL PREVENT THE U/BOLT
UNDER AXLE BRACKET PLATE FROM HAVING TO BE REMOVED.
4) NEXT, WITH THE TWO NUTS NOW REMOVED FROM THE ONE SIDE U/BOLT,
RAISE THE U/BOLT OUT OF THE UNDER AXLE BRACKET PLATE , THEN REMOVE
THE U/BOLT LOCATING PLATE FROM ONTOP OF THE LEAF SPRING.
5) LOCATE THE AXLE BRACKET (F) THAT HAS THE THREADED ROD ATTACHED,
AS ILLUSTRATED, UNDER THE U/BOLT THAT STILL HAS THE NUTS ATTACHED. THE (F)
BRACKET HAS A 22mm HOLE IN THE CENTER, THIS HOLE IN THE BRACKET MUST BE
POSITIONED DIRECTLY OVER THE LEAF SPRING CENTER LOCATING BOLT NUT, AS
SHOWN.
NOTE THE THREADED ROD MUST FACE THE REAR OF VEHICLE

6) WITH THE BRACKET (F) NOW CORRECTLY POSITIONED ON TOP OF THE LEAF SPRINGS, NEXT LOCATE THE U/BOLT LOCATING PLATE BACK NOW ON TOP OF THE BRACKET (F). THEN RELOCATE THE OTHER U/BOLT, AS SHOWN, THROUGH THE TWO HOLES IN THE UNDER AXLE BRACKET PLATE AS SHOWN AS ON (7) BELOW.
7) RELOCATE THE NUTS ON THE ONE U/BOLTS AND THEN TORQUE ALL FOUR
NUTS ON BOTH THE U/BOLTS TO 120 FT LBS.
THE TWO NUTS ON THE THREADED ROD COME CORRECTLY LOCATED AND LOCKED
TOGETHER. THESE NUTS MUST NOT BE MOVED, AS THEY WILL BE USED LATER WHEN
CONNECTING TO THE TENSION SPRING.
NOTE THE THREADED ROD MUST BE FACING THE REAR OF VEHICLE
8) NEXT POSITION THE EYE HOOK BRACKET (C) (THAT COMES WITH THE OTHER THREADED ROD (E ) AND TENSION SPRING (D) ATTACHED) OVER THE REAR LEAF SPRING EYE AS SHOWN. THE EYE HOOK BRACKET (C) MUST AT ALL TIMES BE LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE LEAF SPRING EYE AS SHOWN BELOW.
9) NEXT ATTACH THE TENSION SPRING TO THE OTHER THREADED ROD (A)
ATTACHED TO AXLE BRACKET (F) BY SCREWING THE TENSION SPRING ONTO
THE THREADED ROD (A), UNTIL THE SPRING IS AGAINST THE TWO NUTS LOCK
TOGETHER ON THE THREADED ROD. IF REQUIRED TO LENGTHEN THE UNIT,
THE THREADED ROD (E) COMES WITH ABOUT 6” OF THREAD TURNED INTO THE
TENSION SPRING, AND CAN BE SCREWED OUT TO LENGTHEN THE UNIT,
DEPENDING ON THE LENGTH OF THE REAR SECTION OF THE LEAF SPRING.
10) NEXT LOCK THE TWO NUT ON THE THREADED ROD (A) ATTACHED TO THE AXLE
BRACKET (F) HARD AGAINST THE COIL SPRING. TO DO THIS, HOLD THE COIL SPRING
TIGHTLY WITH ONE HAND AND USING A 22mm OR 7/8” WRENCH, LOCK THE NUTS
HARD AGAINST THE TENSION SPRING AS ILLUSTRATED.

11) VERY IMPORTANT
BEFORE SETTING THE TENSION ON THE TENSION SPRING, ONCE AGAIN CHECK
THAT THE EYE HOOK BRACKET (C) IS POSITIONED IN THE CENTER OF THE REAR
LEAF SPRING EYE AS SHOWN.
WITH THE AXLE STILL HANGING FREE THE TENSION CAN NOW BE CORRECTLY SET.
12) TO TENSION THE TENSION SPRING, THE THREADED ROD ATTACHED TO THE EYE
HOOK BRACKET (C) MUST NOT TURN. TO DO THIS,HOLD THE TWO NUTS FACTORY
LOCKED TOGETHER AT THE END OF THE THREADED ROD (E) WITH A WRENCH. YOU
CAN WEDGE THE WRENCH AGAINST THE UNDER SIDE OF THE FLOOR OF THE
VEHICLE, THIS WILL FREE THE OTHER HAND.
13) IN ORDER TO SCREW THE THREADED ROD ATTACHED TO THE EYE HOOK BRACK‐
ET (C) INTO THE TENSION SPRING. USE A 22mm OR 7/8” SOCKET AND RATCHET ON
THE NYLOCK NUT THAT HAS BEEN SECURELY ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE THREAD‐
ED ROD (A) WITH LOCTITE.
BY TURNING THE THREADED ROD THAT HAS NOW BEEN LOCKED TO THE TENSION
SPRING AS IN ILLUSTRATION (10) THE TENSION SPRING WILL SCREW ONTO THE
STATIONERY THREADED ROD, ATTACHED TO THE EYE HOOK BRACKET.
14) KEEP TURNING THE TENSION SPRING UNTIL THE GAP BETWEEN THE COILS
OPENS AND THE WHITE PLASTIC DISC GAUGE (INCLUDED IN THE KIT) JUST FITS
BETWEEN THE COILS,
15) NOW THAT THE TENSION SPRING HAS BEEN SET TO THE CORRECT TENSION,
THE NUTS ON ETHER SIDE OF THE TENSION SPRING MUST BE CHECKED TO SEE
THAT THEY ARE SECURELY LOCKED AGAINST THE TENSION SPRING.
