NAME: DON’T DRIVE WHEN YOU’RE TIRED

MARKET: Those under 25. Fifty five per cent of drowsy driving accidents involve those less than 25 years of age. Those with Apnea, shift workers

and long distance truck drivers are also high risk. (Sleep Disorders, 2006)

FEATURES: Documentary of a formerly active young person, confined to a wheelchair for 32 years as a result of drowsiness by a driving

acquaintance.

BENEFITS: Drowsy driving accidents in Australia are costing the taxpayer, $2 billion per year. (Sleep Disorders, 2006)

APPEAL: Almost all human beings fear harming their friends and loved ones, although they are prepared to take risks themselves.

FORMAT: Documentary, based on real life photographs and interviews of a person whose life was altered by drowsy driving.

STORY: The driver and victim are looking at a photo album. There are three sections to the photos; pre-accident, post-accident, and the pain and

suffering caused by the accident. Pre-accident photos include overseas travel, cycling, diving, flying, and skydiving, canoeing and hunting. The post-

accident section focuses on shots in which the victim, confined to a wheelchair, is a passive observer of life, looking at a motorcycle, being dressed

by as nurse, watching others play sport, being transported in a van, and being served at a B.B.Q. The third section reviews the car roll over,

transport to hospital, and spinal traction. The driver confesses: “ I feel so guilty. If only I had stopped and rested.” The advert concludes with text

and voice over, over film of a long straight road. “Don’t put your friends in wheelchairs. Stop driving when you’re tired.”
