NIV Numbers 11:1 Now the people complainedabout

their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he

heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from theLORD burned among them and consumed some of theoutskirts of the camp.

2 When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to theLORD and the fire died down.

3 So that place was called Taberah, because fire fromthe LORD had burned among them.

4 The rabble with them began to crave other food, andagain the Israelites started wailing and said, "If only we

had meat to eat!5 We rememberthe fish we ate in Egypt at no cost--alsothe cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.6 But now we have lost our appetite; we never see

    anything but this manna!"

(Numbers 14:27-35 NIV)27 "How long will this wicked community grumble against me? I have heard the

complaints of these grumbling Israelites.28 So tell them, 'As surely as I live, declares the LORD, I will do to you the very

thing I heard you say:29 In this wilderness your bodies will fall--every one of you twenty years old or

more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against

me.30Not one of you will enterthe land I swore with uplifted hand to make your

home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.31 As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them

in to enjoy the land you have rejected.32 But as for you, your bodies will fall in this wilderness.33 Your children will be shepherds here for forty years, suffering for your

unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness.34 For forty years--one year for each of the forty days you explored the land--

you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against

you.'35 I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this whole

wicked community, which has banded together against me. They will

meet their end in this wilderness; here they will die."

    Jobs Complaint

11 "Therefore I will not keep silent; I will speak out in the anguish of my

spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.12 Am I the sea, or the monster of the deep, that you put me under guard?13 When I think my bed will comfort me and my couch will ease my complaint,14 even then you frighten me with dreams and terrify me with visions,15 so that I prefer strangling and death, rather than this body of mine.16I despise my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone; my days have no

meaning.17 "What is mankind that you make so much of them, that you give them so

much attention,18 that you examine them every morning and test them every moment?19Will you never look away from me, orlet me alone even for an instant?20 If I have sinned, what have I done to you, you who sees everything we do?

Why have you made me yourtarget? Have I become a burden to you?121 Why do you not pardon my offenses and forgive my sins? For I will soon lie

down in the dust; you will search for me, but I will be no more." (Job 7:11-21 NIV)

Eliphaz the Temanite, "I am angry with you and your twofriends, because you have not spoken the truth about me,as my servant Job has.

(Job 42:7 NIV)6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD,the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow toanger, abounding in love and faithfulness,7maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness,

rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guiltyunpunished; he punishes the children and their children forthe sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation."

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortalbody so that you obey its evil desires.

13Do not offerany part of yourself to sin as an

Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not insexual immorality and debauchery, not indissension and jealousy.

    Reason for Manna Provision

    2

Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wildernessthese forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in yourheart, whether or not you would keep his commands.3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you withmanna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you thatman does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from themouth of the LORD.4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these fortyyears.5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORDyour God disciplines you. (Deu 8:2-5 NIV)

    16

He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestorshad never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go wellwith you.17 You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands haveproduced this wealth for me."

Food as an idol or a god

18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you againeven with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach,

and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly

things.20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a

Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything

under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that theywill be like his glorious body.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify thedesires of the flesh.

17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, andthe Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are inconflict with each other, so that you are not to dowhatever you want.

18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under thelaw.

    19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,impurity and debauchery;

20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of

rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warnyou, as I did before, that those who live like thiswill not inherit the kingdom of God.(Gal 5:16-21 NIV)
