Alzheimers Day Care to Suffer Crucial

    Cuts

DEERFIELD BEACH For more than 27 years many in Northeast BrowardCounty have been sending their loved ones with Alzheimers disease to the N.E.

Focal Point Alzheimers Day Care Center. This community gem offers a long list o

programs that improve the quality of life for individuals who are suffering from such

devastating diseases like Alzheimers and other forms of Dementia. This program

has given caregivers peace of mind and the option of keeping their spouses,

mothers, fathers, and grandparents at home in the community, thereby delaying

the need for long-term nursing homes. N.E. Focal Point has served as a home

away from home for ages 2 102.

This center helps keeps me sane and my husband comfortable, said 81-year-old

Marilyn Bonanno who is her husbands caregiver.

We have learned that the State Senate has proposed a massive cut to the funds

that keep the day care center functional. Officials are planning to cut $195,150,

which is half of the total budget for the Alzheimers Center.

This cut will negatively impact dozens of Broward families who uti lize our

services for their family members who suffer from memory-related disorders.

On Monday morning at 10:00 am we will have two caregivers available at N.E.

Focal Point, 227 N.W. 2nd Street, Deerfield Beach. They will be there with their

loved ones to tell their heartbreaking stories and how our community day care

center has enriched their lives and the lives of the ones they love. We invite you

all to cover this story. It is a story that the public must know about.

You should care because all of us will enter that stage in our lives and we would

hope that kindness and compassion would be shown to us, said Bonanno.

    ubject: A Request

    Hello Mayor Robb,

As a relative newcomer to the commission meetings, I want to express to you that I fully supported youcandidacy for mayor, and I am very much appreciative of the good job you are doing for the residents o

city. I think you contribute a strong presence, and you have a lot of extremely valuable experience in yo

capacity as mayor. Based on what I have observed at the commission meetings, I would generally assu

that more often than not, we would agree on most issues from a political standpoint. However, there is

matter that I hope you will consider regarding your relationship with Commissioner Ganz. I believe it wo

n the best interest of all involved if the two of you were to try to mutually mend your relationship. I unde

that you do not see eye to eye on most issues, but there is a personal component to the hostility that is

detrimental to the meetings. Both of you are doing a disservice to yourselves because you each diminis

status in the eyes of those who attend the commission meetings with overly harsh words, retorts, and

dismissive conduct. I am uncertain about the genesis of the problem or the history between you both, b

sincerely hope that you might consider trying to achieve a more cordial professional relationship. You bran and now serve because you want to improve our city, and you are both to be commended for your

service. You and I may not agree with some of the stances he takes on issues, but I do believe that he

provides a valid, analytical counterpoint to many of the discussions at the meetings and his motivation

genuine concern for the betterment of the city. I urge you to reach out to him and try to build a better wo

relationship, so that the meetings will go more smoothly and more will be accomplished. I understand t

may have done things in the past that served to deteriorate the relationship, such as when he abruptly

addressed the issues regarding your conversations with the sheriff or the employment status of city wo

f you make the first step in reaching out to him to address your concerns with regard to your relationsh

attempt to make amends, I am hopeful that it will lead to a better, more professional relationship. It will

build your status in the eyes of your fellow citizens, and you can take the high road and reap the reward

that action. I am not sure if it is better to do it publicly at a meeting or privately between you both. I am ohopeful that you will try to mend the relationship for everyone involved. If I can be of any help as a third

would be more than happy to do whatever I can to achieve that goal.

    Thank You,

    Dear Mayor Robb,

Your recommendation for your availability for Thursday the 20th coincided great with our plans and I was very much looking forward to it,

I was very disappointed to hear you will be unavailable today.Mayor Robb, I have done my outmost best to give the project my heart and soul and do something that the City of Deerfield Beach would besince it is their only LEED certified building and needs to be a high class achievement for the City.

However, for the reining Mayor not to be a part of this that the entire City and residents are looking forward to, leaves doubts.

I would like to know what I have done wrong in your eyes that you do not honor the project with your presence, if that is the case.

I sincerely hope you will reconsider and please come. Everyone was looking forward to having you there, giving a speech, and reunification of tand influential minds of the City is very much needed and we were looking forward to you, a Mayor that does just that.It was your gracious gesture to yield the ribbon cutting to the previous Mayor that left everyone with the impression that you are a unifyingfor the City regardless of the politics and that you are there with the best intentions to serve the residents and the good of the City. You ha long history that continues. It will be good for all if you please come. Why would you yield your top position and your rightful place at the fof every City building project?

    Would you please reconsider??

    Good Afternoon,

    Here are the latest updates:

    1. SOMAT SYSTEM: I was in Chicago last week and I met with a Representative of the SoCompany. Steve Eno is flying down for one more demonstration of the Waste Compost Systhis Wednesday, June 5th at 9 AM. They have agreed to stay and help us videotape our ow

demonstration of how to use the machine for employee training purposes. Please let the City Employees know, those who wish to participate at this meeting.

    2. FORMAL REQUEST FOR AWNINGS: We are hereby requesting permission to installpermanent awnings as it being the only solution for the use of the exterior patio. We haveexhausted all other options and deemed them non feasible and there are no alternatives ot

than full awnings same as the surrounding restaurants have.

Reason: we are in the corner and on the beach and subject to gusts of high winds even wstormy conditions, and there is no umbrella rating to meet those standards. We met with 7different companies to discuss weather protection for the patio. Poggesi umbrellasrepresentatives, considered the best for Florida Beaches and the only ones with the highesrating told us "It would be unethical to take your money because you would only be able to them 20% of the time. We installed at Wyndham Hotel and you will rarely see them open".

Companies with retractable awnings also refused because the sensor would not pick up windfast enough to close on their own and they would not guarantee them.

Only regular awnings with side panels would work, same as the other restaurants next doorwith a footing on the pavers and cemented in according to code. We are very humbly and urwish that you would consider our request as being the only choice for the use of the patio we will be loosing 40% of the seating capacity every time it rains. In the RFP the renderingshowed the vague outline of chairs and it would have been wonderful if the observation decbuilt directly above this patio, but there are still some very elegant solutions.

    3. Opening Date: We are targeting June 19th or before , provided that all approvals are in This is extremely late as compared to what we had planned for, but we had to carefully re-

architectural plans around unforeseen as-built conditions that we had not anticipated and wwere unaware of. We also went overboard on custom finishes with natural stone and specialthat complies with the LEED certification among other details of which we all got a greateducation.

    4. Two Parking Spaces: Please let us know the location of those. On Saturday I got my secParking ticket on the loading zone as I had parked there with the blinkers on after I unloadthe computers. I am always happy to contribute to the City but in a better way... LOL

    5. Deerfield Beach Employee Frank Cristiano: Special comments and reference should be mhere for Frank Cristiano as his knowledge of the building and every detail of the restauranbeen very valuable and was extremely helpful to us.

    Hurricane Notice

We are in the Hurricane Season. As an aid to residents, I am asking every condoassociation President/board to prepare a list of those residents in their building who

need assistance in evacuating their unit should it be necessary to do so. We are

particularly concerned for those residents that need wheel chairs or walkers, and mo

Lists can also be turned in at the COOCVE office. COOCVE will give a copy of these listhe fire department for their use in any major emergency.

    SWALE AREA Victory

The City of Deerfield Beach (City) used to maintain the space between the outer

perimeter fence and the city streets (the Swale Area) along Military trail and SW 10t

been fighting the City about this for some time. Please see Donna Capobianco's article in the June is

The committee will be responsible for selecting the book format and contents, getting advertisers, frequency of publication

    Mayor Robb,

We understand the vehicle towing services bid is due May 1, and we are not a local tow provider. With that in

Dispatch & Tracking Solutions (DTS), is providing the following proposal.

For more than 18 years Dispatch & Tracking Solutions has been providing management solutions to the muniowing community serving over 100 law enforcement agencies in 11 states. In a typical year we will capture

excess of 260,000 tows. The DTS solution we are proposing was developed in 1997 in conjunction with a larg

metropolitan police department. Thus we have the only system of its kind which was developed with law

enforcement, for law enforcement. With this history the DTS team has evolved into subject matter experts on

related to non-consent towing. We are aware of no firm that can match this experience.

While we understand that the bid is targeted to local tow providers, DTS is proposing an alternate, all-encomp

solution to the Departments towing life cycle. The DTS solution outlined below meets or exceeds all of the

requirements and provides a myriad of other features to add efficiencies, cost savings, and transparency to th

entire towing process. All of these peripheral benefits will be provided at no cost to the municipality. The mos

funding model is a small user fee paid for by the vehicle owner or tow provider at vehicle retrieval or vehicle

    disposal.

DTS operates well with one or an infinite number of tow providers on behalf of the Department. From the

Departments perspective, the dispatch will be a single request to DTS which, using our cutting-edge software

everaged to select the appropriate tow provider with the appropriate equipment. With this approach, the Dep

achieves maximum, redundant towing coverage. Additionally, it enables the participation of smaller tow provid

who would otherwise be excluded because of the lack of sufficient personnel, equipment, and facilities. The r

will likely improve the municipalitys MWBE objectives now or in the future. In addition to satisfying all of the

requirements, the DTS solution will yield the following benefits to the Department:

One, some, or all of the features can be used. It is up to the municipal customer.

Single contact point. With the LETS / TMS system, OCSO will enjoy the efficiency of a single point of

    contact.

All-in pricing. All of the features and benefits outlined herein are provided at no additional cost other th

approved impound fees. And with the Software as a Service (SaaS) model, there is no additional hardw

software required. Integration with the Municipalitys CAD system and MDTs in the officers vehicles is

available. Additionally, DTS provides all upgrades, training, technical support, and implementation at no

    charge.

Softer Towing Boundaries. With the DTS approach, our unique dispatch software will provide a more

o Tow Charges. All towing fees are established and controlled in the system by OCSO. Accountability o

forwarding it to you. He says you can still put 100 dollars in the mechanism and your license plate will b

entered. The one thing he could not tell me was how much does that buy you? This is what they are

    considering.
