Rob Jones’ 57-ball ton
keeps Toft at top
A SUPERB century from just 57 balls by Lancashire’s Rob Jones kept Toft at the top of the ECB
Premier League – after his Old Trafford buddie Danny Lamb had run up a sparkling 130 for hosts
Bramhall before tea.
Thanks to Lamb (13 fours and four sixes), Bramhall set Toft the considerable task of topping 239,
his innings containing 13 fours and four sixes, with Jimmy Lomas and James Drummond taking 3-
55 and 3-53 respectively.
Toft were up to the task and achieved their target with 15 overs to spare thanks to Jones’ second
ton of the summer which contained 15 fours and three sixes. Help came from Henry Hughes, 44.
Alderley Edge stay second after becoming the latest team to dismantle Bowdon’s batting. They
were all out for 134 at South Downs road, James McDougall top-scoring with 47, Aussie Hamish
Winter-Irving claiming 6-39 to take his tally for the season to 29 wickets. Alderley replied with
135-3, teenager Sam Perry 56 not out.
Timperley suffered their first defeat, by eight wickets, in a high-scorer at Chester, but not before
Grant Hodnett (13 fours and four sixes in 120) had hit his third ton of the summer in a tally of 253-
7, Jack Williams 3-41. Chester’s powerful openers Warren Goodwin, 103 (12 fours and three sixes)
and Rick Moore, 69 put on 166, then unbeaten Harry Killoran, 36 and Will Owen, 30 took the tally
to 255-2 with 10 overs to spare.
Grappenhall v Neston is level-scores draw
There was a thrilling level-scores draw between Grappenhall and Neston. Grappers totalled 224,
Adam Roylance 55, Ash Davis 3-24. To which Neston responded with a nail-biting 224-8 from
their full 55 overs, Dom Smith 76, Luke Camden 50, Gaz Burns 4-43, James Claxon being
dismissed with the final delivery with the scores even. Neston pocket 16 tie points to Grappenhall’s
14 for a draw.
Nantwich climbed to mid-table with a four wicket victory over Cheadle at Whitehouse Lane after
their visitors had totalled 204, Will Holmes 69, Dan Brown 66, the two Ollies bowling well -
Freckingham 6-66 and Griffiths 4-65. The Dabbers replied with 205-6, Ryan Brown leading the
chase with an unbeaten 95, while Henry Dobson supported with 52 and Dan Brown claimed 3-47. Hyde’s dreadful start to the season continued when they were hammered by 81 runs at Didsbury. Finishing
third last season with only four defeats, Hyde have now lost four of their first six games. This time they
bowled out for 145 (Simon Normanton 5-54, Nick Anderson 4-29), their hosts having earlier piled up 226,
Jack Rudd 75.

OVER FORTIES ROUND-UP
Blazers beat champions REIGNING champions Neston lost by nine wickets at Chester Boughton Hall Blazers in a key
West Division game in the Over Forties Section last Wednesday to take a decisive early
advantage.
In the South-East Division, Alderley Edge Wizards and Bollington Veterans beat Woodley and
Bramhall respectively and look likely to make the running throughout the summer.
Sale Silverbacks won their third game in the North-East Division to take a comfortable early lead.
Timperley continue to top the Central group, ending Grappenhall’s unbeaten run with a 52-run win
at Stockport road. Timperley umpire Robin Maddocks commented in as telephone chat next
morning: “There has been mention in the Newsletter of the good sporting spirit in the Forties this
season. This was another such game, both sides showing up in the very best light. I have nothing
but prise for the Grappenhall lads, who lost Neil Fairbrother stumped early chasing 138, and never
looked like making it. Personally, I cannot wait for Wednesday evenings to come round”.
Home clubs are urged to use the website as the favoured method of reporting results – with full
